i dont understand the rescue strategy of the us-goverment...
it seems to me, that the usa is a rich country and they cant help fast their own citiziens? where are the 10000's of helicopters? where are army? in iraq?
have the us-gov. no interest for the poorest part of the country?
....

you just answered your own question
most of the military is overseas, we just scheduled another 1500 to be shipped out. there's the national guard but really, all of the money and force is in iraq right now. bush cut new orleans' funding for storm prep by 70 million this year. i guess it's pretty horribly ironic.

First of all, it's not the poorest part of the country.
Second, it's first and foremost the State of Louisiana's requirements to handle the situation and, if it cannot, it receives back up support from a Federal source.
What's so hard to understand about this?

new mexico is the poorest part of the country, trust me

(Sep 1 05, 14:17)it obviously cannot, since the mayor put out a public sos on tv. where's that federal help?
nowhere.

New Mexico or West Virginia (Appalachia). God you think you are in Kosovo there!?!?!
- prodigalslacker0
yeah west virginia is far poorer than new orleans, but its still / was a shithole city.
but the federal help is when the funding was cut by more htan ever before this year. so now the federal help is the 40,000 troops nola wants and bush can't give cause of iraq. the ten billion won't do shit because in a city of anarchy the money won't matter. we'll see. bush sure has a tough little few weeks ahead of him.

JazX, shut the fuck up.
It is pretty painfully obvious that the states can't handle it.
Use hurricane andrew as an example. this country is used to dealing with this type of shit, where a state can't handle it so FEMA comes in, but FEMA was gutted of its balls and budget.

Step-by-Step, whether one wants to accept it or not the US Government is one large bureaucracy. There's a process to all of it. Regardless if it's a disaster or you're filling out an application for a job with them or waiting for your passport.
Sure they should move faster and I'm sure will start to get a move on, but a NO Mayor's plea isn't going to make the government move any quicker. It's reality.
This isn't Europe were things are much more compact and concentrated. Some things take time.
Sadly, LA wasn't prepared for this whatsoever. I'm assuming they should have been.

it'll change for good

FEMA was gutted of its balls and budget so rich folks could have their tax cuts, that have not resulted in any new jobs in this country, as was promised.
trickle down economics doesnt fucking work, those silly Reaganites.

Same to you on the STFU part.
Touche!
As if there is a magic red button that can be pushed and everything is fixed. Come on now boys...

take a cookie boys. we all know there is no place where humanity wins over stupidity

Read in between the lines. Ain't much the Feds can do, like you said FEMA has been drained. They'll have to wait and get funding from another source or reroute another agencies money to help them. That's my opinion.

I dont give a damn, this president fucking sucks. he has not done one fucking thing that has helped out this country in 5 years.
just fucking say it:
he is the worst pres. we have ever had and a shitty leader.
just say it.

JazX I generally agree with you on most things, but I have to totally disagree.
THIS, if nothing else, is exactly what FEMA exists for. THIS is exactly what the Feds should be covering. This scale of disaster is far too large for any state to cover - it's just obvious on the face of it.
And we are seeing local and state level coordination - the local LEO's ar etaking command of what National Guard units are deployed.
The failure here is at the Federal level, and again a failure of leadership, funding and planning.
Here, let this spell it out, form the KIDS section of the FEMA site:
"FEMA is part of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH, which means it reports to the President of the United States."
http://www.fema.gov/kids/about1.…
The KIDS section. And FEMA was made part of Homeland Security in '03.
Failure at the top bro.

I'll be the first to admit he's not very good and has won no prizes with me. But you said it yourself and it was to bash me a little bit and it actually made sense. Partisan thinking in a situation like this isn't very smart. You're right. Not so sure you can blame one guy though. An administration as a whole, sure.
