..that will define the Bush presidency?
From MSNBC online:
“This is a national disgrace,” said Terry Ebbert, head of New Orleans’ emergency operations. “FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control,” Ebbert said. “We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans."
"We have got a mayor who has been pushing and asking but we’re not getting supplies,” he said. He said the evacuation was almost entirely a Louisiana operation. “This is not a FEMA operation. I haven’t seen a single FEMA guy.”
------------------I mean this is a total lack of leadership. Utter lack. What was hidden incompetence in Iraq is glaringly obvious right now. I'm not even trying to play partisan politics here. I've been to New Orleans, it's a great city and to see a great American city go into total and complete chaos like this is insane. Maybe it'll start hitting home that all the money that's been diverted from domestic policies is a huge ass mistake...I mean it took Bush three days to get up to speed on this. WTF?

he doesnt give a fuck cuz i's poor people

the whole world is laughing at y'all. but in bush's defence, he has a stressful job and he was on VACATION. bwahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Let's not forget the fact that this city already asked for additional funding in anticipation for "the Big One" and the Bush Administration only decided to approve 20%.
Now that "The Big One" has hit the efforts are a bit too little too late.

someone here at my office today asked "where are all the troops that could be down there fixing this situation". well, we know that all of our troops are in Iraq right now...or elsewhere. And yes, it will be very interesting what Bush will do to gain solidarity in his beloved red states.
New Orleans is over. It is so sad, but it would be silly to try to rebuild it into something bigger and better than it was. people have to truly consider the strenghth of nature. but yeah, anyway, Bush is going there tomorrow. we'll see....

why does this come as a surprise that he isn't really doing anything?
- enjine0
is it gone? i don't have TV, and all of hte web reports just talk about the crazy people in the streets. what's up with the french quarter, garden district, and art district? are those streets and buildings still there??
(i hope i don't sound too thick about this, but really the media coverage for this disaster has been quite bizarre)

Not much you can do in a total disaster gents. Only so fast it will physically happen. Why do we keep talking about New Orleans specifically? There were other areas hit harder.
The citizens of NO are the ones acting chaotic/animalistic now, not the weather.
When $25 Billion USD is given for the clean up, come back and take sh*t then.

the bushes will not be known for their domestic policies

Today's White House briefing, from Think Progress:
REPORTER: There’s a lot of discussion going on about the funding of
projects prior to this, whether projects in New Orleans in particular
were underfunded because of the Iraq war or for other reasons. Do you
find any of this criticism legitimate? Do you think there is any
second guessing to be done now about priorities given that [a
disaster in] New Orleans was sort of obvious to a lot of the experts?MCCLELLAN: As I have indicated, this is not a time for politics. This
is a time for the nation to come together for those in the Gulf Coast
region and that’s where our focus is. This is not a time for finger-
pointing or politics. And I think the last thing that the people who
have been displaced or the people who have been affected need is
people seeking partisan gain in Washington. So if that’s what you’re
talking about, that’s one thing. Now, if you’re talking about
specific areas, I would be glad to talk about some of those, if
that’s what you want.REPORTER: I’m talking about policy
REPORTER: One project, for instance, is the one where people felt
they needed $60 million in the current ‘06 fiscal year, and they were
given $10 million. Those types of projects. And a lot —MCCLELLAN: Which project is this?
REPORTER: Southeast Louisiana Flood Control.

of course he hasn't done anything about it.
the man has not done one thing right the entire time he's been in office.

Goes to show you the State of LA's emergency control plan wasn't very up to par. As mentioned by someone earlier, I believe mrdobolina, the State is responsible for evacuations, National Guard calling and such, not the Federal government. Stop turning this into a partisan thing.

How convenient...

Come on people. Get with it. Gearge is really trying. Do you realize that he missed the ending of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes movies and his in-flight snack to look out the window of Air Force One? No one is thanking him for cashing in his vacation days (2) to go back to work early. And he will visit the site almost a week afterwards. I am sooooo sure he will bring supplies aboard AF1.
The above was chcok full of sarcasm.
Read this, drink a beer, drink another beer, then go on a tirade:
