Our gas shortage is the smallest of problems, and if thats all your worried about thats pretty narrow-minded given the current situation down south.
I watched everyone scramble to get gas yesterday as the pumps started to run out with cops at each station. I think it will be good for us to go without gas for a week or so- a little jolt to get our priorities and outlook back on path.

i gotta go downtown today.
drive the 25 miles or drive 2 and hop the train? it's a no brainer. hello train.
it's still 2.97 a gallon here, at citgo and across the street at mobil. i'm crossing my fingers it stays.

I'm just mad I gave my mountain bike to my sister. Urghh... I would just ride it to work.

mississippi is pretty wild right now. gas stations are empty. occasionally one will get a shipment and it gets swarmed. police were pumping gas.
i heard some fighting broke out, and while that wouldn't surprise me, i don't know it for a fact.
seems like it will be a while before things "normalize". the south is just so spread out. many people have to drive an hour to and from work every day.
when gas prices rise, everything else does to. this is what concerns a lot of people. i'm no economy expert, so i can't comment.amusingly, the truck that was bringing our powerline poles is stuck in another city... with no gas.
things should be pretty interesting over the next few weeks/months.

as if the smog wasn't already bad enough down here...
"In an effort to ease the growing gas shortage, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Wednesday that the state will temporarily waive requirements for gasoline additives that are added to fuel in the Georgia."

I love my car - a 97 Black Avenger. Fat tires, phat sound, all leather, pin stripe...I drive maybe twice a week. I can't imagine how people that have to drive to work are going to absorb these costs, Yet the oil companies are bananas with profits!

no shootings near me. we're a couple hours north of the worst of it, so we're just full of evacuees and a lot of crotchety redneck people hording food, water, gas and guns.
some people are being very nice while others are being quite mean.
i suggested carpooling this morning. a couple of people actually laughed at me. they just don't understand yet, but they'll understand soon enough. you can't hate them and call them names because they've never had to think about such things. sometimes you just have to sit down and explain with rational details...
everything will be fine as long as i have my beer and cold white wine. if i run out... woe be unto the south. :)

no gas = no public transportation
so everyone who has to travel 30+ miles to work is basically f*cked.
everyone who needs to buy food will run out soon because no gas = no trucks to deliver goods. Anyone who wants out can't take planes because no gas = closed airports...the list goes on and on so while your driving your econo car or riding your bikes somewhere in europe claiming americans are winers because there's no gas can go f*ck themselves.
