The greatest of Picasso's work came in the 30 years between Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937)
Which would make him ...
hmmmm 56

his blue period was his best

i'd like to think design matures with you. if you age well, your design will age well with you.

picasso was born in 1881, and died in 1973. he lived 92 years.
so by your math, aliceblue, he wasn't at the top of his game for his final 36 years... where his experience would be most key. and he probably relied more on his experience than his innovation in his late years.
yet it looks like his most innovative period began when he was 26, where experience wasn't his forte and thus he had to be super creative to make a name for himself and lock himself into history and make money.
quailty of work aside, i'd love to know when he made the most of his money. :)

then why are most old designers (cds etc) shitty?
- tkmeister0
they snorted too much and drunk too much.

me, too - the blue period
Especially "La Vie"
(should have been named "Morte" because it deals with isolation, dispare, and death)
- aliceblue0
k77 ...money ...I think that came with mass production and reproduction of his work in the
in the 60's on.

ha, so that means when it comes to the bottom line, experience trumps and creativity and innovation *isn't* that important. :)

i think experience can sometimes spawn off something new and creative because you have knowledge of what has already happened before. and experience you can earn...im not sure you can earn creativeness

expercience=mastering the drop shadow ;)
- aliceblue0
right on -
you can't earn or learn creativeness

One should strive to be creative and gain experience. These are not mutually exclusive goals.
Some people out there might have a limitied amount of talent, or let their spirit dry up, or they pigeonhole themselves, but that's not a result of experience, that's a result of making bad decisions.

knowing when not to use the drop shadow ;-0

Baskerville -- Perfect! Couldn't agree more.
I think experienced designers need to always continue learning and exploring design. That keeps their creativity refreshed and their mind flexed.
