i'm designing an offline html website (on a cd-rom) with let's say 50 html pages.
what i need to know:
is it possible to make a crossplatform/crossbrowser searchfunction in there that searches the FULL text of EACH html page
and list the hyperlinks to the searchresults, added with a short description?yes/no*
*if the answer is yes: where do i find a good tutorial on this subject?

Most site search applications require something like php or asp to be installed on the system running the script so I don't think most available search applications would work in this situation.
If you know what os the cd is going to be running on you could try and find a way to call on the built in search functions for that system.

"If you know what os the cd is going to be running on?"
10.000 cd-roms going to be mailed around the world, so the answer to that is ...no.

Convert the whole thing to Flash and make it a Flash Projector.
Then you could search through the contents of the cd cross platform and browser independant.

cause its a cdrom, and therefore the content wont change in future, you could 'hardcode' the content of the cdrom into an array, and search through this array, and actually not the content...
...could do that in javascript.

takashi,
50 arrays with each 200 words in it ...would that cause any problems or...
ah wait, i'm just going to give that a try.

:)depends on the machine that the client has, as usually for clientside script...anyway, i think 50 arrays with 200 words in it, shouldnt cause any trouble...
...but maybe you make a web search for javascript search engines or so, there must be some good ones arround, and for sure some good tricks on how to improve the search algorithm and speed...
good luck:-)
