VOB problems

I have a VOB file I ripped from a DVD that I need to convert to something I can edit in After Effects. I'm on a Mac and would really like to avoid AVI. My problem is that I don't seem to be able to import more than the first 10 seconds or so into Final Cut, Cleaner 6 or a freeware program called Handbrake.
Is there anyway I can do this? I'm up against a serious schedule with this work.

I would also like to know if you can import the audio with the VOB or is that another file?

Enter response:
on a pc you can change the .vob extension to .mpg

I tried changing the extension to mpg and I was able to play it in the Quicktime player, but I still only got about 11 seconds of footage, no audio.
I also could not import into After Effects or export from Cleaner.

You need this QT component.
