I've heard some nasty stories from the Allied side. Interesting stuff, that war.

My father in law was in Malaya when it was occupied by the Japanese. He managed to survive on tapioca roots, different world back then.

Very different world indeed.

I said friend or foe.
A day to remember the end - not what happened or shouldn't have. Just that it ended.

i must have been in a bubble my whole life about what japan had done to its neighboors, since i was a child i always heard great stories from my parents about japan and all i wanted my whole was to make it there...but it never werked out that way for me and i made it to china first...there i was ignorant to them and all i would talk about was how cool japan was, but all i got was stares of horror and some real nasty arguments from a lot of very angry chinese people...
i have now learned from that day and i go foward with open eyes!
:)

(Aug 15 05, 11:40)My mother was in an internment camp in indonesia during the war. She never had any bad feelings toward the japanese, as children her age(2-5) were treated kindly, given candy etc.
Also, as a colonial occupier, The Netherlands wasn't in a position to be too critical, I suppose.
When I was 28, I had a friend of japanese decent whose parents had been interned in the US. It was great moment when we realized that we had this thing in common, really strengthened our friendship.
Just proved to me what a mess the world was at the time but that good things can come out of bad, however small.
Why can't we learn from these mistakes and have peace in the world?
