I've had some neckpain for a few years now - just never got around to getting it looked at. It's getting pretty bad now so I really need to do something.
Not sure whether I should get physiotherapy or Chiropractic. I've heard from some people that Chiro is a bit of quackery...
Opinions?

Chiropractic care is great if you find a reputable chiropractor, stick with it, and follow through with the appropriate exercises and practices the chiro recommends.
I had some serious neck injuries after a car accident and where I went used a combination of chiro, physical therapy, and massage. After a few months of that and I felt better than ever.

I have had great results from my McTimoney Chiropractor. I've had a history of neck problems since I was a teenager and get reoccuring bouts when I either have a car accident, spend too long in economy class or wash my hair (yes, wash my hair!).
The McTimoney methos is different to general Chiro. It's much more about 're-aligning' your body rather than just treating the affected area. The manipulation is gentler (less clunking and clicking of bones) and it hurts less!

I'd go for Chiro. Short term I'm doing a 12 week course, long term taking up Tai Chi, swimming sorting out my posture. I was horrified that my movement is really restricted..ie the basics like touching toes. So strengthening the "core" area will definetly help.
I was kinda distraught when I went to the chiro, after the xrays (which were bad) they give the impression that you'll be a regular (expensive) visitor for the rest of your life. Thats why I really would suggest trying to address the possible causes.
Good luck.
