China already owns a good chunk of Alberta. So does the States.
Anyhooo, the people who comissioned that poll are Pure Canadian Alliance wannabe neocons. Through and through. It's bollocks.

western provinces have clean water (export), lots of power (electricity), oil, lumber, tourism, lots of land.. etc etc

Ha. Through and through Dinky. I acutally had the NDP show up at my door to walk me over to the polling stn in the last election as well.

I'm not saying I want to, but as a westerner born and bred I completely understand the point of view.
Albertans don't have to look past the NEP Ontario implemented in the 80s that caused a huge economic recession causing many to declare bankruptcy.
For the rest of westerners it's simply a numbers game. We are handcuffed to Ontario political policy simply because over 50% of the entire nation's population is there.
It's not about hating eastern canada, so much as it's more about self determination.

next time around, i'd like to see all of canada polled.
and we know how painful that can be...

All my life I've had to explain Quebec SOVEREIGNITY (not separation) to people who didn't understand. Now, its time for me to sit back, and just bitch about something I don't know shit about.
Fucking anglos.. they want to separate from this beautiful country. ITS MY COUNTRY TOO! Egoistical bastards! I wonder if the government will fly a bunch of us Quebecers with tax payers money to show how much we love the west!
end of rant.

I think western canada could pull away, quebec has always been treated like shit. They just want to be recognized as a different culture, they are after all, they speak a different language etc. When the rest of canada just wanted to assimilate quebec into their ways, they brought up separation, it was an extreme way out.
I support Quebec seperation, but western canada ? eff off.

first, I made it very apparent that I don't support western seperatism at all, I only said I understood the viewpoint.
You can liken it to a union: a union to me is a bad thing for a company, very counterproductive on a whole. But, that union will never be influenced to form in the first place if the employees are working in a good safe environment where they feel their voices and concerns are heard. To form this is a lot of work and struggle that won't happen if the employees are happy.
But, in the same way if someone wants to form a union, it always gets portrayed as a greedy grab for money (as you just likened by post to GREED). Even if the workers are just after a safer worker environment, or better conditions.
In the same way I understand the viewpoint of a western seperatist, but I think there could be alternative resolutions aside from breaking up the country.
A restructuring of the government at the federal level is an option to allow the west more self determination.

Quebec has never been recognized for it's distinct culture, and it's inherent right to work it's own provincial laws. Quebec is a way more liberal province, but has been slapped around by the federal government.

Hi, I'm from Canada2!

it's amazing that a country where a majority of it's inhabitants, say it's the greatest country on Earth, yet 30 some-odd percent want to separate.
damn that BC bud is good...
