who actually watches/likes the show? i flipped by it last night and god... its like watching a caged street fight with a bunch of losers pounding each other. they make it look like its professional fighting but none of them (at least the ones i saw) had any skills....
the fight i saw, the dude dashed at the other guy and made him fell, cornered him to the edge (caged) then POUNDED him till the round was over....
WTF

Everything you just said is totally false. Sorry.

The competitors in UFC, Pride and other "ultimate fights" are among the best athletes in the world. Most "regulatr" people think real fighting looks like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan and think what they learn at Tiger Shulman's is the "real deal". T'ain't.
Sure it looks like guys just clawing at each other and then rolling on the ground, but trust me it only looks that way because both guys know what they are doing and a great battle of conditioning, technique and wits is going on.I find the UFC stuff quite civilized and the competitors (with some exceptions) among some of the most disciplined people out there..
Boxing is a far far more brutal sport, and also highly unrealistic to what "real" fighting looks like...

Here's a site for some research:

usrper,
If that was your first time to see it, you are basing your opinion on only one show.
I'm not sure exactly which show you saw on Spike because they've been showing the fight that was live this past Saturday night, and the fights from the finale of the Ultimate Fighter television show.
All I can say is, you're way off mark in assuming that the guys in the ring are losers, or have no skills. That is in no way true.
Some fights are boring, and some are over the top action packed. A good fight showcases several fighting disciplines - stand up fighting, wrestling, submissions, etc.
It is all very technical even though it may not look like it.The gloves on their hands are little more than a thin leather cover above their knuckles. It is nothing like boxing.
It's a show that is as much about the offensive strategy as the defensive. Having watched several fights, it's always interesting to see more and see how people are evolving. So many fighters in UFC have become incredibly well rounded, whereas some used to be dominant at just one type of fighting.

you get a MMA fighter to fight some dude on the street and you'll see why they're skilled

sherdog is a great site.
I really got into it when the UFC show came out on Spike. As the series got towards the end I had trouble sleeping because I was seeing the fights in my head. It took about a week after the finale before I shook it loose. I know that sounds dumb, but I was hooked.
And usrper, if only you could see the finale fight between Stephan Bonnar and Forest Griffin. Among one of the best fights ever on UFC. Three full rounds and at least 2-3 dozen times in the rounds you thought one of them was going to drop. They were in incredible shape and taking everything.

point taken.
i say they are losers but yes they can beat me up by simply breathing within 5 ft of presence.
i was into martial arts before but never really enjoyed much boxing. ill get with it more.

I train primarily in capoeira, but I do "roll" occasionally with some groundfighters..holy crap...it is an intense experience as you can ever do, and one of the most intense overall excercise in bodily exhautsion you can do...good thing for the tap out :)

Nah Brazillian JiuJitsu is like so 1999. JiuJitsu guys don't dominate anymore - the entire sport of ultimate or cage or no hold barred (NHB) fighting has really developed it's own set of approaches and techniques these days - with a skill set far beyond the Brazilliam JuJitsu beginnings...

These ufc guys are messed. My friends uncle had a roommate who was in the UFC (apparently the ufc guy still owes him money).
Anyway this story takes place about 5-10 years ago. The two of them were out walking, when some guy came out of no where and drop kicked the ufc guy. They dude bounced off him, and fell to the ground. That's when things got bizarre (yeah I know you're thinking, that it's already bizarre). Anyway the UFC guy starts wailing on the dude that drop kicked him, and the final blow was him biting into he drop kickers stomach (I guess it was his signature move or something?) anyway, after he bit him he bolted from the scene, as did my friends uncle. To this day my friends uncle doesn't know what it was all about, and quite frankly was too scared to ask.

Why are they "losers" to you?
The last person I would call a loser is someone who is in incredible physical shape, worked like crazy to get to that point, is about as mentally tough as it can get, is able to think in an instant what they need to do in a fight.
Compare them to Ahnuld. Would you have called him a loser for becoming so good at bodybuilding?

arnold is a pussy comared to those dudes!
- mg330
I know, but the comparison is quite the same.
I don't see the logic in calling anyone a loser who works hard to achieve a goal, especially when it involves physical strength, endurance, and the ability to get their ass kicked every now and then, and still get up and shake hands with the person who did it.
UFC has a ton of respect between fighters. There are grudges, and people who don't like each other, but 99% of fighters respect each other and always can compliment the winner on having a good fight.
- usrper0
mg33, for fucks sake do you want me to apologize to each of them for calling them losers?
:)
- mg330
No. I just wanted to reiterate that you're wrong for thinking they're losers. :D
