Hey I wanted to get to the bottom of this and find out if my Mac monitor will work on the Mac Mini and i seem to be getting conflicting information from different sources.
The monitor is an Apple Studio Display (Graphite) 17" CRT Monitor with an ADC connector.
and looks like..
Will it work with the mac mini. if it does not work... What do i need to do to get it working?
Answers clearly appreciated.

you will need one of these. a adc to dvi adapter
- chossy0
buy an adapter ADC - DVI
- van_rijn0
or this one

The second option is wrong, the display is adc, not dvi.
you need a DVI to ADC connector like what van_rijn said first, you could get one from loads of pc stores for allot less than 99$ I'd imagine.

when i bought my mac mini, it came with an adapter for use with older monitors..
but i bought a cinema screen to avoid that..
anyhow, the mini comes with an adapator.
:)

it comes with a DVI to VGA not sure if that is ok with an ADC monitor.

yeah im wondering if the supplied adaptor will work ? But the 1st option sounds good to me.. now to find the best price in uk £'s

will the USB still work also on the side of the monitor with an adaptor?

I bought the Formac DVI to ADC Adapter and its the wrong connector!!!
Dont know what to do now.
it was from this address http://www.cancomuk.com/products…does anyone have a clear correct answer to my problem ?

You need one of these DVI to ADC adapters (which means it has to supply power and USB to the monitor, just as the ADC output port on an ADC Mac does):
http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.la…What did you buy? Sounds more like the other way round (ADC to DVI) at that price...

That item at the very top of the page, thats what I bought... listed as Formac DVI-ADC adapter. It was suggest by chossy.
The item ypou have suggest looks like its probably the correct device. It looks a little more expensive than I had in mind (£77.03) any cheeper options (even if it means loosing the usage of the USBs at the side?!)

Will this solve my monitor problem?

Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapter
Apple DVI to ADC adapter connects your DVI-equipped PowerBook G4, Mac mini, or Power Mac to an ADC-based Apple flat panel display* including: Apple Studio Display (15" or 17"), Apple Cinema Display (20"), Apple Cinema Display (22") or Apple Cinema HD Display (23").
Price: $99.00
THIS will for sure work. It is basically a breakout box for the power/video/usb in the ADC. Goodluck.

No to the belkin.
- thejudders0
why no ? whats the difference? would it not work with the downside being the loss of USB?

or even this http://www.rgml.co.uk/productdet…
Dr Bott DVI Extractor II - ADC - DVI Monitor Adapter
Dr Bott DVI Extractor II - ADC - DVI Monitor Adapter for Mac£28.07

They will not work because they do not provide power to the monitor. ADC has power/usb/video all in the same cable so you need to separate them. The apple one turn that ADC into DVI/power/usb. The belkin and drbott you show are for using a DVI monitor IN a ADC connection on your computer.

It might even be better to go and get a Flat TFT!
Thanks for your help.
anyone want to buy a an Apple Studio Display 17" !??
- ribit0
thats probably the best way to go... who wants 1280x1024??
