I'm in a rut of being bored and uninspired.. I'm totally not comfortable with it.. everyday without having designed anything feels like a waste. Bah!
Anyone with the same experience? Any advice to overcome this? I have some deadlines coming up at the end of august so I have lots to do...
Thanks,

Everyone goes through it at different times. It's quite random, and occurs at least once every two years.

I was in the same way, been feeling that for a few months, I picked up the new Experimental Formats 2 book and feel totally inspired and realised I've been limiting myself by thinking that I'm in a bad situation and no good can come of any new projects based on prior experiences.
Take any opportunity you get to do the best you can and try to blow the client away with amazing concepts, lot's of people/studios are doing the same, so why can't you?

I have been in a rut for the last 6 months. I think it's my job though. When I seem to feel like I am climbing out of it by doing private work and seeing (design) friends.
I then slide back down.

Travel to some place you've never been to before. Works like a charm.

Snuggles, that is so funny.. you know I just flipped through pages of the new Exp. Formats 2 book haha.. I bought it weeks ago and never got the time to check it. I must say it kinda helps, but when I try to start a sketch or whatever I just loose it.. it's so annoying. Maybe I'm just forcing myself too much?
Gotta keep it positive!
Thanks

travel. go out.

do some more personal work, find a rooftop to look around, watch some porn, get a random magazine, explore more, take a bikeride somewhere you've never gone before, get a new hobby, go to a museum, etc.

stick a collander on your napper and take a walk next to a power station. It's an "hair-raising" and awe inspiring experience let me tell you, bzzzzt, fffft.

love your work btw, just chill out out you're being too hard on yourself by the sounds of it. What you think are 'average' ideas / designs will probably be exactly what the client's after, for now, until you rise again and blow the fuckers away.

ps try not to call clients 'fuckers' in meetings.

I'm in a big fat rut too, it's rubbish :(
(hence I'm on here everyday for hours, can't help right enough)

Yep, taking yourself too seriously is a major factor. Loosen up and lots falls into place.... Dont put so much pressure on yourself to come up with something earth shattering.

staying positive is key, yet it's easy to say, hard to do. Rut's are inevitable and reoccur all the time, so you have to find your own way to deal with them. People always say travel, but how's got the money to pick up for a week and travel every couple of months when you're feeling down...

how's = who's

If it's happening every couple months. You need to make some major life changes.

Like not writing fragments as sentences.
"If it's happening every couple months, you need to make some major life changes."

Why? Most artists/ passionate designers have the same temperment which usually entails hating everything you've done in the past and looking towards the future and next project. Emotional turmoil would naturally come with the territory..

Yes indeed.. I really don't have the money to go on holiday or so, allthough I know I really need it. So I'll just try my best to travel small places..hanging out with friends and stuff..cause I know I have been working straight for months now, it's crazy.. I just realized I never allow myself to 'chill'.. I mean it's okay not to work for a while I guess? It's weird, 'doing nothing' for like 2 to 3 days can make me feel bigtime guilty.

I disagree, I think that's a romantic notion that's often applied to artistic people.
