I like Univers more, although I try to avoid using both of them, as Typographic said they are both quite tired.
Type design in general comes down to subtleties, so I think those "small details" are extremely important.

you know i was thinking, 99% of the general public can't tell the difference, so why do we even bother choosing one over the other? i'm not saying this to take any type of stance, i guess i'm just looking for a little enlightenment, that's all

it's not how people care, cuz most people won't care. but will design do its job? that is the most important question.
will it communicate? will it challenge people? will it be stored somewhere in their mind, or even unconscious mind?
will design deliver the statisfaction to the messenger (=client) that was desired?
people do not need to "care" or have special interest in design for it to work..
same goes for architecture etc.
