i remember them at FFWD back in 2001, when Patterson and Pitaru showed how they even went into the code of their Wacom tablet and combined it with Flash/Director somehow.

He draws illustrations freehand, scans them in and recreates them in vector. Then (in some of his works) the illustrations are disassembled as separate MCs and scaled using ActionScript. I just took a class with Amit @ ITP and he explained it. James currently has a show at Bitforms. http://www.bitforms.com/
