'Mushaboom' was my favourite song of last year.
And I miss Bran Van. The second album was okay, but the first was great.
Plus Arcade Fire AND Godspeed You Black Emperor is also from Montreal, so it's all kicking off there.
And about 5 years ago I had problems reeling off good Canadian bands... who woulda thunk it?

5 years ago the only known band was Our Lady Peace... what a crappy band!
- benfal990
that was 10 years ago i meant

hey Feist, its a girl. She's from Montreal, Quebec.
She's also in the canadian collective Broken Social Scene (excellent music too)

(Jul 31 05, 14:38)What benfal said. Leslie Feist is great. I especially love her song 'Mushaboom'. I definitely have to listen to her entire album sometime soon. All of my favourite bands are from Montreal, and most of them are a part of Broken Social Scene in some way or the other.

We definitely have a booming music scene. The Arcade Fire, The Stills, Stars, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Feist, k-Os, Sam Roberts, Avril Lavigne (I don't mind some of her stuff), The Dears, Buck65, etc.
Our indie stuff is becoming more well-known. A few years ago it was the mainstream stuff that really got people going (Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Our Lady Peace, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea, etc.). Not to say that the music is bad. Tons of people still love those artists and they're quite successful.
