if your going to look down your nose at people, you should back your statements up with something of substance, not just easy right-onisms
(kelpie)------
True. Rude of me. Would like to meet you in person and discuss it over a beer but, in fact, I'm not sure people want to discuss it. The whole thing is just so discouraging to discuss because no one is willing to stop, think and listen. Or do their own research about the roots of it.

gone? ok

fair enough (ignore my last post). I agree NT is a rubbish place for a proper discussion, but a thoughtful choice of wors goes a long way.

(Jul 29 05, 06:59)Are you in politics? You managed to dodge saying anything at all there. Good work.
*tips hat.

the thing i hate is how blair etc are saying that if we link the london bombs to iraq, then we are "justifying" terrorism, which is just a way to make us back them up and stop questioning them.
when we were protesting before the war they told us that the pre-emptive attacks were "absolutely necessary", that it would be over quickly, that it would make the world a safer place. we protestors were saying it would make the world more dangerous, there would be reprisals back and forth, it would be the biggest recruitment card possible for extremists. unfortunately i think we have been proven right.
i wish people didn't have to be smug cunts about it tho.

(Jul 29 05, 06:59)Well you didn't listen to me. This sounds like you are describing yourself. You make one post and got upset and then actually refused to participate further.
That's not discussion.

(Jul 29 05, 07:00)no, you are so wrong - I asked you a reasonable question and you ignored it, then eventually turned up to say you didn't want to talk about it. Again, fair enough, but your point scoring doesn't work when you're not prepared to elaborate.

----------you have indeed, what do you think though, should we NOW pull out? don't you think that would be really really bad?
(ps. I'm just interested in your opinion, not starting a fight :)

yea it's a tricky situation now kelpie. the british army advised to keep the iraqi army intact, but the u.s. ignored that advice, so now iraq is basically a lawless hellhole. i do think it would be irresponsible to leave them right now.
it just sucks though, cos it's going to be very, very difficult to restore normality over there.
for instance, there weren't any suicide bombers in iraq before the war, now you hear about it every week. basically every psycho in the region has gone to iraq, thanks to us.

What's point in responding when you're so excited and ready to argue? I would like to have a quiet discussion but am not prepared to explain my view online.
I will try to be in London later this month to visit my college. Maybe we can hook-up and talk if you're genuinely interested...

"You're misinformed and if you're still at that stage, it'd take a lot of time to explain you..."
"I would like to have a quiet discussion but am not prepared to explain my view online."
You can dismiss someones understanding of the situation online but won't give your own understanding of it?

woof - I don't mean to be a cunt, really - but plenty of people round here are very quick to be and I feel your choice of words could have been better. I'm not in London, but I've heard a lot of people go "I told you so" to those who are on here lately and it's annoyed me, also loads misreading opinions and jumping on their high horse causing "unrest". Apologies if I've misread you myself. 'nuff on that :)

that said, can anyone think of situations where military occupation has produced a successful outcome?
the U.S troops in fallujah are already part of the problem rather than the solution.

Japan after ww2?
- kelpie0
it is very tricky Vesp - I see it falling into the wrong hands if the "allied" force leaves though, and I feel those wrong hands are worse than our wrong hands. Know what you mean about producing successfull outcomes, but I think if we can (if) hang about till control can be passed on to a local force we will be better placed than just pulling out. I see it as a "made your bed" situation and just feel sorry for the kids who are over ther fighting to lie in it, ifyouknowwhatimean :(
