Creatively that is. Took a quite a few beers tonight to realise it though. I seem to be content just now to coast through jobs instead of getting excited and putting my full effort into them.
Can anyone recommend anything to rekindle the flame for creativity? Any books to recommend? Not just design related either - in fact, anything you've found to inspire/move you over the years you think someone else should read/view/whatever.
Fuck. I know it's late and this might be a bit heavy for a Thursday night but hey! A couple of taps and a click's all it takes :)
Cheers.

a good old walk outside. a new hobby. a few beers. a stripclub. a new magazine. more candy. more trips to stores you would never go to. more museums. more wandering. more exploring. etc. etc. etc.

ive been thinking seriously of taking like a month off and focussing completely on my own work and nothing else, no client shit
that way your forced to do somthing or u wasted yer month, get some paint out and throw it around, waste some canvas's

I'm feeling the same way lately, very beaten down, hard to focus and get excited about new projects. I'm really not sure what the answer is.
In the past I've tried to focus on creating my own projects to keep the spark, but I haven't had the energy lately to even think about doing that.
Personally, I think I need a change in environment. Eventually I know I'll find a studio where I feel I belong and be on the same page as my co-workers, but I don't know where or when that'll be...

defenitley time off and work on your own shit. you will feel more focused when you can concentrate on what you wanna do. defenitley.

you know what, forget about work. take a vacation, relax, think more about sex.
that helps. i mean, at least, for me, it does.

So porn seems quite popular then ;)
Time off's a no-no just now (cause I'm already on holiday). Just back from Amsterdam, caught the Populism exhibition at Stedelijk and got a few ideas from there but because I got wasted for 4 days I forgot everything!
Back to work Monday for a BIG pitch too, one we really need to win. Wish I had another week off. Or a month.

Actually, from being in Bitterzoet/Rock n Roll Picnic on Saturday night I felt inspired - must have been the walls clad in Parra posters. Think I should maybe get back into illustration again, create my own 'ingrediients' rather that working with someone else's.
- snuggles0
hah, I saw that exhibit the other week, it was interesting.
Someimes time-off can do more harm than good. It's very difficult to return to the same situation that you'd left [and were miserable in]

Haha, yeah snuggles, that's exactly what I'm dreading - slipping back into the same rut. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy in the job (good clients, good money) but I'm kind of disappointed in my attitude. I need a kick up the arse.
- snuggles0
same here regarding attitude, except I'm really not that happy with my job, which leads me to think, am I ever going to be content?

This may sound stupid but it works for me:
I'll usually create stickers or posters and stick/wheatpaste them in public places. I know that it could be considered "vandalism" to some, but the devil will find work for idle hands to do.
Sorry to hear that you're felling tapped out.

felling = feeling

Sometimes is similar for me. In this case i do: get sleep or get drunk/stoned, open a book of art, and do things i like and focus on my personal projects.
For me works good

Thanks guys - like the suggestions. Funny though, the more I think about it, the more I think that itchy feet might be to partly to blame. The Visa application to Canada's just gone in and we're facing a 2.5-3yr wait for a result. That's like the pause button being pressed on your life, you know. Frustrating.
Wish I had an extra room in my flat, I'd stick some fireworks in some paint cans and see what comes out of it. I dunno. I need to do something. Just not sure what yet.

Just start doing things, what you want to do became clear in short time
