obrigado! (thx!)
i find it so difficult learning how to desing properly and code... surely not 1 man's job... i mean, there's no time left to live if we take it all. if it gets to difficult i must outsource the job.
that picture, ahaha! that's my dog barking over my shoulder in some mountain cruise where i live presently... that bark is about a million decibels smashing your brain... that's why i have no brains left for coding...

PHP doesn't build databases. You CAN use it however, to grab data from sources like mySQL, Oracle, etc. You can even hook it up to Access, but that's a special case as you need to be hosted on a Windows box with the proper ODBC driver installed.
I suggest you find out what your hosting service supports (or maybe even supplies). Your best bet is going to be a mySQL database because it's free. It doesn't have a GUI, but you can install a php program called PHP myAdmin that will create an interface that you can access from your browser.
Here are some links to get you started:

er.... i'm not been funny (considering your title), but you have tried:
haven't you. it's really, really good.
anyway, really easy what you need to do. split it down into parts, that's the best way. first, install phpMyAdmin on your server:
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_p…this isn't as quick as using MySQL on the command line, but it is great when you're starting out. this will build your database for you (do some quick reading up on data types for your table columns).
then you'll need a quick tutorial on writing to a db and one for reading from a db, both of which you'll get from php freaks.
and that's it! from then on, it's about making your stuff bigger, better, faster, stronger.
good luck!

I did this for a private section of my folio, including architectural stuff.
you need to create the following mysql tables:
#1 categories [categoryID, title, description]
#2 subcategories [subcategoryID, categoryID, title, description]
# projects [workID, subcategoryID, title, description, date, status]
#images [imageID, workID]
you'll have to LEFT JOIN all this tables in your query order to display your project's info.
mail me if you have any doubts regarding this procedure.

Thank's all so much for your help. Great links.
