After my site was down with "necessary repair work" three times in one week, I split.
Dreamhost sucks.
I swear by:
http://www.rochenhost.comPraise Rochen.

use them since 2000, i like their support. when i got problems or issues, i always email them, then they reponse next day and problems solved. i think they make a package very easy to use i.e. control panel, admins, etc.

I must say though... have (mt) not built one of the strongest brands around? Most people already have a preconcieved idea that their hosting is the best there is.

i can afford a mysql server going down once every 2months for $9 hosting of a personal website...
- doesnotexist0
i believe (mt) is the way it is because of the hype and the massive amount of designers who use them.
i could really care less about them. im down with whom ever offers me a great price.
word.

1AND1 HOSTING PRETTY GOOD. did'nt mean to shout to lazy to delete it and type it back without caps.
- stevegee0
F that gooze, 1and1 blows... email servers are retarded, support is ass, interface is poop, and the deals that used to be nice are worth shit now. I've dumped all 1nad1 over time and am spreading out over DH and MT. 1nad1 sux it.

Personally, I'll pay extra for a reliable host with a great support network. Most of those costs are paid by the client anyway.
It's the same reason I'd pay an extra $50 to buy a Sony over an AIWA. Piece of mind and reliability are priceless.
I remember this same thread about XO/concentric a few years back.

again dreamhost was down for a total of 18 hrs this week.
i'm shutting off my last account with them today. They just lost 12 advanced hosting packages because of this crap.
- spiralstarez0
yeah fack. I have my photoblog on dreamhost and it's damn slow right now. Painful.
I've been looking at http://www.textdrive.com
right now they have a $399 hosting for life deal. Anyone host with them? Looks like they've got some good people on board the co.

i hope the recent explanation email is sufficient for you. seems it was not something they could have controlled no matter what....

I need MSSQL as opposed to MYSQL ... so finding reasonable hosting with Mircosoft's insane licensing fees (besides hosting myself) has been almost impossible the past few years.
But I've been looking at http://www.brinkster.com, for awhile now and I'm probably going to go with them.
- lyrek0
No, their email wasn't sufficient. It's pitiful that they didn't plan for something like this.
bye-bye dreamhost.
- spiralstarez0
meh - for what I paid for it, and what happened to them, I still think they're alright.

Never had a prolem with Dreamhost.
I reckon I am happy as a pig in shit with them.

I got 1and1
i really need to move away as they suck....badly!!!!
any suggestions for a good affordable ASP host?
- xero0
I can heartily reccommend Clook.
Most support requests are answered within 15 minutes. Not the cheapest but have excellent reliability and support.

i wonder what the hosting companies would do if everybody max'd out their space and bandwidth?
They would go belly up in no time
