me and a friend just had a conversation about elderly designers in the bizz.we all now a lot of designers here in belgium and the average age of a lot of studios is like 26.
does anybody now where all the older designers are.are they freelancers,do they all start their own business..or does the designpolice put them in all in homes where they spent theri days perfecting the art of the drop shadow?
but serious.where the fuck are they?

I'm 30. At my last company I was the young one in the design group. By about 7 years. They are still around. I think a lot of it has to do with the firm ya know.
This place was a large corporate studio and had an older crowd. The place I was at before that was a medium size studio that was more like 2a or something... and I was the oldest one there.

sadly, they never learned how to do lens flares.

I'm the oldest at the place I'm at now. Hell, even the marketing chicks are all younger than me. SCORE!

either what dinky said or it's like how it's here in sweden when most elderly designers switch to project managers or consulting.

and you know how the agencies work so you can call on their bullshit
and kick ass all the time

I would think that after a period in time, naturally, the older you get the wiser you become. Most start their own shops hiring younger people. I know some kick@ss older/old designers and they've lost their motivation and momentum. They use the younger crowd, 25 to 40 year olds to do their dirty wor. They sit back laugh and make tons if the gettin' is good.
A lot of those kinds steal clients, etc.

o yeah.
its like, just make design, cause it looks pretty and they try to wrap that around with BS

I'm 33 and I run my own show. I have no intentions of doing anything else, anytime soon. I love what I do.
I know, i'm one of the 2 or 3 people here that aren't cynical about design.

me too, definitely, it's a must when you sell it to the client, they want that. but as a designer you can easily see though it. but apparently 'designer bullshit' is even taught at uni's these days.

clerk - you gotta sell the idea!!
- clerk0
naturally undo, it's not the point, read the article i posted, he says it better than me...

The two big bosses in the office are both in their 50s. One is the production manager and the other is doing more Sales these days than design. I'm the youngest in the office (29).
