hmm personal attacks?
didnt you just imply that me and nigel had homosexual relationship? did i say anything personal before that aobut you?
no i just pointed out that it would have been better of a point and stance if you could provide your expertise on this matter where you have pointed out that Nigle's work does not have substance.
does all art work have to have strategy behind ir? did piscaso have strategic planning to his work?
what is substance that you seek? are you saying that art should only have positioning that it requres?

To be perfectly honest I'm a little saddened that I've been immediately labeled a "hater" because I'm questioning Nigel's work. I thought that this was what he wanted from this thread; for people to discuss his work.
No? Am I blind? Or are you?

hot... SIZZLE!!!!!

hmm frank you started off being defensive
make your valid point out with doing personal attacks or joke around it
thats what grown ups do
- frankfido1010
I am no art history master. But I am pretty sure Picasso and his contemporaries were challenging something with his art. Most meaningful art is saying something, is it not?
My point is, this art says nothing. Or does it?
THAT IS MY QUESTION!
PS: I was joking about the nut-hugging... but it's true, if you read through your posts.

"thats what grown ups do"
Wow, what is your problem?

rand dude, wassup?
- frankfido1010
I'm sorry, I take that back. I really don't want to turn this thread into anything personal.
I came here to discuss Nigel's work, and I'd like it if we stayed on topic.
Thank you.

please tell us, what is youy analysis on this body of work?
what do u think it lacks need work around?
- frankfido1010
I think that his work is very well stylized fluff. I think that all of his work is driven by the current trends in graphic / web design. I don't see any original thought or personality coming through in any of the work. I think it's all very well excecuted and Nigel is obviously a master of the Photoshop techniques he uses to produce his work, and obviously has a great eye for color and composition. But none of it says anything to me, and that is why I raised the issue.
- frankfido1010
Is that valid? Or am I a "hater"?

(Jul 18 05, 16:44)art is a lie that reveals a truth
-piscaso
Design is not art.
- frankfido1010
But EVEN if we look at Nigel's work as "art" - what is it saying? What truth is it revealing?
I feel like I'm on crazy pills here.

no frank
that is a valid point, like many art and design it is subjective.
to most, it does communicate tone, mood and style. like your self it doesnt.
but substance is a generalizing word. i would think that it lacks communication value but not it does not have substance.
- frankfido1010
"to most, it does communicate tone, mood and style. like your self it doesnt."
What tone, mood, and style is it communicating to you? You seem like a very big fan, so I'd be interested in hearing your take on his work.
- frankfido1010
I wonder what Nigel makes of all this.
- blackspade0
frank, your point is valid, and has been discussed to death in previous NP threads and the like...
interesting read...

"stylist. I think it’s high time to restore this important term to wide currency, and not to disparage the validity of styling as a mode of expression, or as a career path. (I’m not one of those who would slag a young talent off with a dismissive “Oh, her? She’s just a stylist.” Styling is as crucial to good branding work as design, and maybe more so, but it’s not a replacement for it.) Not at all: it’s a term that is useful in the world because it observes—preserves—an important distinction."
