At the moment, we don't really have the capacity to take on interns. I've also never felt great about the whole work-for-free thing. At some point when we're able to provide a good learning environment, it'll happen.
But mainly there's just no bloody room. If Mike and I back up at the same time, we knock heads. It's that tight. So unless you're willing to hang a off the side of the building, we can't humanely host anyone for the moment.
Kevin's team does it from time to time, though.

balboa, so you art directed the brand since the beginning?
- usrper0
a better question would be, how long have you been art directing for htem.

I worked in the Retail Art Dept for 3 years (first with Howard Brown, then Jennifer Tough, Kevin Lyons, and the rest of that team).
Then I quit for 2 years but while working externally got hired to design the e-comm site for UO...
...and ultimately came back here as Art Director for Urban Direct (Catalog and Web).
I've been back for about 3 years.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with next! I like the evolution so far. It sounds like you've got a really good gig going there. A small passionate team of talented individuals whose strengths seem to blend quite well. I think the ecommerce experience is well executed and consistent with the print collateral without going overboard on fluff. Congrats to you for having good folks to work with and good stuff to work on. I think it's a great brand that continues to evolve and more importantly, react to changes in public soul compass (for lack of a better way to put it).

Testpilot, you nailed it. I've been working here for a while now, and this has been the best year yet.
I've been gushing a lot about my job tonight, but in my experience, it's rare that a retail company commits itself to recruiting and supporting such a strong group of designers...
Coming off a couple years of fishing for clients, dealing with their collective learning curve, getting stiffed or paid off in aeron chairs, i'm stoked every day to come in here and kill it with these guys.
We weather some criticism along the way, but it's definitely worth it. At some point the work will balance out the politics...
OK, that's it for my super-posi posting. See you guys in the A.M.

Personally, I was just conveying the effectiveness of the brand directly to one of the designers responsible. It's honest input that can be hard to come by - a chance to directly connect designer and audience.
