so my ex-biz partner calls me and he wants all the design assets from the time we are working together.
i did all the design work and production while he sat around and did very little. that's why he had to call me now.
now i am thinking... should i release them with a Non Disclosure Agreement or just tell him i am not giving him anything?
- mrdobolina0
why does he need them?
- Mimio0
If everything you said is true why would you consider doing it?
- kld0
tough one but if you were partners then it would seem like the assets belong to both of you
- tkmeister0
true, mimio. i shouldn't give him anything.
he needs them because he now teamed up with another designer and want to use them to promote.
i was considering to charge him for everything and if some design is produce(furniture) take the cut from the profit.
- jdcomba0
dude, if he didn't make it, how will he use it to promote? RIP!!!
- Mimio0
For his own good tell him to "Fuck off!"
- mrdobolina1
if he didn't do the actual work, tell him it would be dishonest and cheapen your work by allowing him to use it.
- jdcomba0
give me address, i have fork, will stab.

kld,
a part of me feels that way so that's why i am wondering.then again if we were partners and producing things together, how come he has none of the assets, right? all the files are on my harddrive and done under my creative direction and he has contributed very little.

Yeah, dont give him the opportunity to burn you, and if he insists give him crappy exported 72 dpi jpgs. I definitely would'nt give him source files.
- Mimio0
Effectively he's using your work to get more work for himself. Totally dishonest and beyond your obligation.
- kld0
yep its a tough one, maybe if he credits himself with 'project manager' or something for those pieces but if he's claiming creative input then I'd say eff it, thats misrepresentation
- mrdobolina0
also, why is he no longer your partner?
- AtlasImage0
Agreed. It's beyond your obligation.
- kld0
I agree about the source files, just give him jpgs if that what you decide. although legally if there was a parnership he may be entitled to the files. Good luck with this.

he fucked up once when we did the museum exhibition. NYtimes wrote an article for the show and my name was mentioned as "...xxx with an assistance of...". i provided him the creative direction and he pretty much took the credit for it.
now remembering that... fuck it.
- radar0
better yet send him a bunch of jpgs with a huge watermark of your name and logo on them.
- mrdobolina0
yeah tk, fuck that. he is up to his old tricks again.
- kld0
legal schmegal, fuck him
- ricstultz0
I like radar's idea.
