i think you should use her whole name in this style. CBD means 'Central Business District' staight away to me.

im not crazy about the colors, but i really like the mark. it's throw-back style

it still looks a little corporate but in an urban outfitters kinda way. I agree with above posts that a nice type treatment of her name would suit a painters identity better, IMO.

i wonder if a painter needs a logo?
as an artist, isn't her name the most important thing to brand?

why doesn't she do it herself?
anyway, i like it - feels like there's not quite enough cohesion between the forms, and the B's a bit weird, but I think it's definitely headed in the right direction.
If she's a painter, might you consider gritty-ing it a little? making it look block-printed or something?
Well, now I'm just blabbing.

looks like a capsule with a butt in the middle...
ok, seriously...i like it ok, the B does need a bit tweaking...
but as a painter (as others said) wouldn't you want a hand signature or something?
or a CBD that is painted with a real brush stroky feel....

"We fuckin love you Gumbo"
"Get yer tools out"

cause i'm smart. :)
a brand is nothing more than a name 99% of the time. it takes a tonne of money and lots of time to ingrain a logo to mean something. nike does it well with their swoosh. but small business? an artist? who will know what CMB stands for, if they see it on their own? in the end it's easier to type nike than draw a swoosh.

Seems too simple and too refined for what you described.
For me, your description conjured up less refinement, less clean lines, more raw and more gestural images. Give it more of a natural feeling and less mechanical or created on a compter feeling.
Keep pushing yourself. Don't marry your first idea and develop lots of concepts to narrow it down.
good luck!

lowercase letters maybe?
