Ok, So the editor (working on premiere PC) sends me this edit where I need to do some post work on after effects (mac).
The video is 720 x 480 so, as usual I go to after effects and in the composition settings I select that size.
But for some reason I'm missing a considerably ammount of the edit on both sizes, it seems like the original edit was almost 780x480 but is not.
I posted a screengrab of both, the original edit information and my after effects comp settings, anyone knows what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

that's weird! hope you figure it out

is it me or does the video look stretched? the comp window looks set up fine but maybe something is stretching the movie.
the trees and the bike look stretched but maybe it's just my eyes.

did you check the pixel ratio of your comp??
or try to opt+cmd+u (on mac) to open the view options and see if the pixel aspect correction is checked or not

your pixel aspect ratio is wrong! well different to the footage you've imported.
go to the project window (the one with all the file names) ctrl click on the clip name and choose reinterpret footage from the drop down. then go to the pixe aspect dialogue box and change it to the ratio you are working in - should be fine after that

or they could've shot it NTSC DV Widescreen. they're both 720x480.

looks like pixel aspect ratio is set to a ... different pixel aspect ratio.
go to composition settings and choose pixel aspect ratio: then there is a dropdown menu with differnent options, so, try to figure out which one they used, and THEN place your footage on the stage. you dig?
otherwise, your footage will just get squished or pulled
recap:
settings first, then insert footage into composition: ) good luck

yep as previous post states, I'm pretty sure it's to do with your pixel aspect ratios.
best o' luck

All you have to do is control click on the clip inside the list of your files (like the library in Flash). Select interpret footage>Main. You'll see that your file comes up as 'square pixels' by default. Change it to 0.9.
Problem solved.

hmmm

4:3 Footage NTSC - 720x480
16:9 Footage NTSC - 720x480By the look of your grab, you need to right click/control click on mac i think...and interpret your footages aspect ratio to the same as your 4:3 comp settings, should be fine then...
if not ..just fiddle with interpretting your footage differently and then maybe changin you comp settings....one or the other will work.

Thanks everyone..
It was the pixel ratio thing.I thought I checked that, on the composition window, (as you can see on the screen grab) is it possible, that the settings for the composition work independently from the footage?
I just want to understand what was I doing wrong so it won't happen again!
thanks again, I was lost on this, NT KICKS ASS MANG!
:)
