cosmo..um, no..those are the weakest albums in metallica's catalogue - heck I like ST. Anger better than those...
S&M was interesting, but it was like Metallica turning into Emerson, Lake and Palmer...
..And Justice was Metallica's most interesting, and MAster was there most ferocious...

The most amazing bands were in that small period from like 88-91...
Jane's, FNM, Soundgarden, Living Colour, Fishbone, GnR, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RageAgainst THe Machine...all really rocked with intelligence, artistry, ferocity and integrity..
You don't see too many bands these days with that total package..

Just thinking about other good stuff from that era - Prong, Quicksand, early White Zombie...stuff that set the blueprint for what became NuMetal crapola...
Heck, even Blind Melon were great ...

I got into an argument with some 17 year old kid telling me how White Zombie was a nuMetal band...I was like dude, they were living hardcore on the streets of the East Village in NY in the mid 80's...Rob Zombie was brilliant...even their first two albums - Soul Crusher - were live Motorhead on a bad acid trip...god..memories...
And this kid was telling me they weren't as good as Limp Bizkit...hahahaha

justice was a good album
but it was way over produced/
some of the sound effects they mastered drive me crazy, kind of cheapened it

Tick you're so right.
what amazes me is the quality [lyrically/musically] level of
[so called] """"heavy""" bands.
crying because dad didn't bought a psp and shit. wankers.

spoonman - hate that song

Justice was an oddly produced/mastered album - real dry. Took a while for me to get used to it, but I think the guitar grind sound theat got on that really cemented the "metallica" sound - or at least the classic one...
Garage Days EP was probably my most played though..great covers...
"I killed your baby today..."
Also let's not forget - Helmet, Kyuss (Blues for a Red Sun was and still is awesome)...

soundgarden - black days.
though i just HATE new the album by Audioslave, cause sounds just like every other shit with a crazy riff on it.
where the FUCK IS ZACH? he is probably laughing at the rest of the RATM gang for making such shit.

* Putting on old geezer pants...
I don't know - there was a certain quality to the music at that time - bands were heavy, but also pulling in alot of influences and making it work..and they weren't really corporate - alot of integrity to the work that you just can't fake...that kind of integrity just is hard to get.
I mean, grunge killed the hair metal bands - which also started out as pretty legit rock and roll movement for a bit (Hanoi Rocks anyone...bueller, bueller...?) and then foundered into corporate insincerity...

trent reznor had a good thing going in his earlier days. the broken and fixed albums were pretty out there in their day
