Can anyone recommend a great place to look for a villa/apartment for two in the south of France (Nice/Monaco/Menton) for one week late August/early September?
Am looking for something a bit out of the tourist hotspots to get away from it all for a week.
:D

I stayed a few days in a small town called st-Cézaire last year, not far from Cannes/Nice, up in the hills. Stayed at a hotel though... check this, there might be some info there.
PS The french have their holidays in August...

Nice is quite nice. Especially this time of year. Better learn French though. :)

here's what i can suggest to help you.
Holidays starts in juilly 1st and finish in August 31st.
If you can rent the first week of september you would pay half the price, maybe less.
It might be hard now to find a villa cause this kind of rent here is often done from january, and so at this date (juilly) maybe too few house could be available.
But here are a few links i found:http://www.homelidays.com/EN-Hol…

The place where you want to stay is called "côte d'azur".
Its in the east of france, at a few miles from italy.Alain.

Carcassone is a lovely place - out of the way enough to remain quiet, but close enough to places like Narbonne for the beach etc
My spelling is bad so check before doing searches
I would but hey, its your holiday

How much money do you have and how many rooms do you want?

I've heard it's full of monster bush.

jox - 1x double bedroom + living/cooking space at a minimum; more if possible. Ideally with balcony/roof terrace + great views!
money wise; not mega-bucks, but not slumming-it. About 800 Euros for the week max, less if poss.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts, given the location in your profile!

That kind of money will get you a nice 1-or 2 bed apt in central Menton for about a week if you're lucky (most places are booked very early in the season). Oh, and rental villas all the way from Genova to St. Tropèz charge you that per day unless you want to live way up in the mountains and have a 30 minute drive to the water. The pressure is insane, I looked for almost a year before I found my house down here.
If you just want to get away from everything, I strongly suggest Menton over Nice. It doesn't have a lot of noise, not a lot of people under 40, very clean and pretty and it's charming in a way Nice isn't. Although it can be dull if you want to do anything crazier than having a beer on the beach promenade...
Have you considered the 'Italian Riviera'? Way cheaper and they are much more friendly. Plus if you pick Ventimiglia, you can walk over the border to Menton.
