I'm on the G4 Aluminum versions, and it gets pretty damn hot. Should I be concerned here? It's hot to the touche on the bottom

Mine is the same, I think this is normal.

thank god they are gonna switch to intel
hopefully less heat
- demafleez0
ditto on my G4. That's why they're called powerbooks, portables or notebooks, not a LAPtop
seems apple is keen on not being blamed for frying your nads
- ArtDirector0
hmm, maybe I should put it on my crotch

I HATE MY POWERBOOK !
I WOULD TRADE IT IN FOR NICE PC !
- demafleez0
seriously tho, check your battery model number as apple is doing a recall on certain ones.
- MrDinky0
chekced already
i am not the only one with bending frame due to over heating

yeah aluminium models get pretty damn hot.
But I have to say, powerbook has been so far the best computer I had in YEARS, this one is the second one I own, and i wouldn't trade it for anything..
:)

When they switch to Intel the next gen Powerbooks should be really nice - smaller, thinner, lighter, cooler
Will be interesting to see what apple's designers come up with given they won't need to worry about heat.

I'm just hoping my motherboard isn't melting inside...

42/45 degrees celcius is the range btw. if it's higher you have a problem. you can download software to probe the temp, look for it at versiontracker.

There all quite hot.
Although apple have paid out pretty well in the last couple of house fires in the US.
...so its a win win situation.

how do you work on that laptop meok? since that construction has this upright ledge higher than the laptop in front of it. looks very uncomfortable.

I posted this a couple of months ago..
Hi all, i though id share what i learnt today coz im bored and i havent posted for ages... Its only half usless info....
Apple are recalling batteries from 12inch and 15 inch G4 powerbooks... see support page for more info if it applies.
Love mindless internet searching comes up trumps sometimes. x

anon, I can see your point.
But, you cant see the bottom part but its actually a tripod stand. I use it primerally for photography when I shoot directly from the laptop. Since Im standing when I shoot, that edge doesnt affect anything. When I sitting down, I connect it to second monitor mouse and keyboard, so again, it doesnt affect me. But your right, I can definitly take half an inch outta that edge for better founctionality.

all powerbooks get hot... so... we all need to come up with our own solutions... mine?
just a keyboard wrist protector cut and converted to a mini stand.. placed underneath the back half of the machine, lifts up the rear end, makes it easier to type, and keeps air circulating underneath.
or buy the ibreeze.
