yeah i went qcity > ottawa > toronto > montreal > san fran in just 3 years ;)
do you work as a designer in quebec city?
- CHAOTICROOTS0
i'm an OCAD AD student - currently finishing up my degree but completed the studio component this year.
I'm a mature student and only joined in 3rd year (I've been a GD for a while) so not too sure about years 1 and 2.
I think its a great school. The staff are all in the know about the real world and are agency owners or partners etc.
Admin wise the school blows bigs time.
but I agree with Xrtions - its what you make of it - you have to WORK at it. there is no overnight success. Some students I find expect by osmosis or something that they are going to become rock star designer/art directors.
You have to push yourself and your teachers to get the most out of any program.
Its a great environment - I'm not sure about this laptop program - lots of money.
but the schools focus on conceptual idea thinking is core to its success.
Over and out

Yes, (yes it's possible!) :p I've been working for 5 years now, I work a bit less cuz I decided to take the bach. in graphic design, at ULaval. I really like it :)

CHAOTIC - will you graduate with a degree since you skipped 1,2?
- frankfido1010
hey nick, i went to QHS too! i graduated in 1996 though, so we probably didnt know each other.
i was born in halifax, live there until i was 14, then found out who i thought was my dad wasn't my real dad and that he lived in quebec city. went to live with him for 4 years to find out he was a jerk and alcoholic, anyways off topic here.
after high-school i went to NSCAD, great school, i loved the bush parties.

re: UQAM design graphique
it;s a very good graphic design program. the profs have good credentials, and the selection process is tough. they seem to put on emphasis on swiss/grid systems. i've only seen good work come out of that program, and i know 2 people who went there and make very nice elegant work.. but the question is: can you sell yourself after attending this program? they seem to lack in the business aspect of gd, which is unfortunately an integral component to being 'successful' in the marketplace.

nice to hear great things about the school i'm going too :D
the testing process was pretty long. but i got a good idea what to expect from my girlfriend's friend's sister who studies there.
nick, did you work in design when you lived in Ottawa? i have a friend looking for work but she can't leave the city because she has a family here.
- ********0
Fanco, nope, i went to a technical college there for a bit over a year and proceeded to get the fuck out as fast as i could :)
- Fanco0
haha. algonquin or lacité? both colleges suck. i studied design at la cité. i hate that school so much. at least it gave me a footing in design though.
I'm getting out of here soon. going to montreal!
- ********0
neither, IADT [shut down after only 5 years]
montreal is better, indeed :)
i am looking into going back to school and doing a proper graphic design degree next year... montreal might be an option... considering the program at UQAM
- AlexLH0
I am in the Advertsing program at OCAD. So far so good. As Greg said, some amazing profs, some shitty ones. Doing your homework on your profs is the best way to get ahead. And yes, the advertising program is considered the best in Canada, i'm i'm not just saying that because i'm in in. Good luck in whatever you choose!
- AlexLH0
Weird typo's there, sorry;
I'm not just saying it's the best program in Canada becuase I'm in it. The profs are mostly in the industry and teach along side their agency work, which is obviously the best way to have it.
