dont kno about advertising... but one of my good friends go there for Graphic Design... and always regrets shes there whenever shes looking at the projects im working on in my school...
im in York University / Sheridan College's Bach. of Design program.. me and negativespace here... we both love it.. i cant talk as far as the advertising program is concerned.. but for graphic design York/Sheridan has the best program... i researched like 1 and a half years b4 choosing the school...
the administration at OCAD is crap btw...
their building is AWESOME tho... ALTHO as soon as u step inside the building.. its total crap... i HOPE they r still in the middle of developing the interior..
for more info on York/Sheridan: http://design.yorku.ca i kno i kno the website is CRAP.. but the teachers r awesome here..
some of the work on myocad is CRAP, some is good.. LIKE IN ANYOTHER SCHOOL.. so its wat u really make of it..
but again i dont kno anything about the advertising program...
if Xrtions says its a good one than it probably is, he knows alot more than i do...

I've worked and have been around people from OCAD and York and it's unbelievable how much more "ready for the real world" the York students are in comparison, and they are actually good with type...

York is pretty cool, i don't want to bash either school, esp. OCAD, considering a lot of the profs teach in both programs and/or originally studied at OCAD, so there is repect there for sure.
OCAD to me seems to have a gone a little too commercial in some ways with the expansion of the school and new identity system, I definitely don't think the school is today what it was 5 years ago.
I wouldn't say I love the York Sheridan program, there are certain things about it that do bug me, but like Greg said its really what you make of it, if you like type, York has a group of really good type profs, you get experience designing your own face, using a letterpress, and 4 semesters of typography class, all of which ocad does not offer in its cirriculum, thats just an example.
Ocad is about 2000 dollars cheaper though, haha.

one of the professors ( i wont name names )... he was coming from OCAD to teach at YORK a first year theory course... and when we asked him "SO WHICH ONE IS BETTER YORK OR OCAD"... he was like "WELL, YORK IS.. U WILL BE LEARNING A LOT MORE HERE THAN U WILL AT OCAD"... we were all me and Tom (NegativeSpace) included very relieved to hear that an OCAD prof is sayin that our program is better... and now Mr. Snuggles is blessing us wid kind remarks too (thank you)...
feels good to be in York... really...
but Xrtions man.. seems like ur really liking OCAD.. which is super... im sure the work ur producing is 10 times better than alot of it in ur class...

As xrtions said earlier any program is what you make of it, myself, I never went to class, disagreed with most my prof's, pretty much vandalized my school with random postering blitzes, never graduated, yet somehow, walked away with an award for "Outstanding Creativity" which I keep in my drawer as I reminder of what a farce the design program at GBC was...
- ********0
i met a couple once (hot wife)... both graduated from GBC's graphic design program and both now working in canadian banks as webheads... when they saw my (shitty) work... they were all shocked how GOOD it was and how i shud come for an internship in their banks...

snuggles hit the nail on the head.
it doesnt matter where you go, just what you do with your time. did geoff mcfetridge HAVE to go to calarts to become a rockstar designer? i doubt it. I bet if he went to the Nunavut College of Art & Design he would have come out of there just as talented.
- Xrtions0
maybe less theory behind him, but you get my point.
- piperboytoy0
I agree, you have to make the best out of your situation.
Don't go to Design without borders, I was just kidding, that is a joint program with GBC and it blows. Just like Bruce's fat ass!

Fanco, UQAM is a really good school of design, with very talented teachers. The only thing there is that you really do design stuff...and may not be really prepared for the real world...dunno

i'd like to hear more about UQAM if anybody has anything to say about it...
An_ie, are you in Quebec City?
- An_ie0
yes actually I'm in Qc City and not in mtl, I didn't go to UQAM...so I wouldn't be the best judge. Montreal and Quebec always had a bit of competion. But eh, UQAM have a big selection process so obviously they choose talented students.

- An_ie0
I know Holland and QHS very well, I went to "st-yves elementary" which is in ste-foy close to place ste-foy and high school, went to Bellevue, all girls kinda close to QHS...but school was closed in 96, when I graduated. :)
