2 spaces is retarded. one!
- 5timuli0
The two space rule was originally taught to typists in the 1960s but it somehow survived the digital revolution. NEVER use two spaces after a period. NEVER.
- 5timuli0
Or else... :b

Typesetting rules say one space.

I hate double-spacers! Even if it's improper to the traditional rules, single space is what I like to see in final layout.
- fusion410
and dont forget to kern your 1’s

I kill people who use two spaces

one space.
used to be two. times have changed.

1 space vs em space?
- 5timuli0
1 space, not 1 em space.
And kern 1s, use proper quotes not foot/inch marks, kern periods and commas into quote marks, en/em dashes instead of hyphens when breaking sentences... list goes on and on.

two spaces went the way of the dodo bird in the early 90s.

I remember typing class, in high school. Had to do two spaces. But I think that's cause of the shitty word program.
1 space now. not 2.

lawyers and students.
and law students.

Two spaces was used because typewriter text is monospaced (everything is the same distance apart) so two was need to visually break to the next sentence.
Now since everything has been digitized, typographers have taken that into consideration and left extra space after the period leaving NO REASON TO EVER LEAVE TWO SPACES.unless it's courier or something like that

Have we come to a consensus on this yet?
- Gorbie0
typical NT concensus i think...
everyone already formed their opinions and noone is gonna change their mind.

and i quote from rockport publishing's typography workbook:
"a single wordspace, never two, follows a period before the initial cap of the next sentence."
