Any of you live in or have lived in a one room studio apartment?
I'm possibly going to get my own place soon here in Chicago, and the idea of a one room studio isn't the greatest, so I'd be interested in what any of you did to kind of personalize things and "cool it up."
Bravo.

One room studios are a constant reminder that you are only one room away from being homeless :-)

That's one way to look at it...
Or, it's one room shy of spending too much each month on where you sleep!

not so bad, until you get sick of eating in your bedroom or vice versa

My ex owned a studio here in Queens, and it is possible to make it look nice depending on how you decorate.

buy or build some room dividers.
You could also suspend some large panels with wire from the ceiling anything to break up the space.

check out janet jackson's pleasure principle video to some inspiration.

that's what I'm thinking, build something in to seperate it. I just need to isolate myself from my cat or else she will keep me up all night while she does dance moves on my bed.

dude, seriously hit up craigslist. i've sent two of my buddies there and they have both found super nice 1 bedroom loft style pads in chicago for under 600 bucks a month.
the one is in wicker park and his pad is friggin ace!

ive got a sweet studio+ (technically a studio, but i have a huge closet that i put my bed and a dresser in...so more like a small 1 bedroom) that is in lincoln park. it's great for the price, but would definitely prefer something bigger. lots of posters and artwork around the place to keep it fresh. the markets pretty good right now, so if you're looking to stick around, id suggest a 1br, which you can find for a good price.

i live in a studio now. when i was looking i actually prefered a studio over one bedroom because many of 1br apartments in manhattan are badly divided 2 small rooms. my studio feels much more open.
i'd like to buy a kick ass loft in a year or two.
