sounds like a deal. but I mean if it goes for 1500 used normally, what the heck is wrong with it? someone drop it?

So you decided to buy the D70? Congrats.
The 80-200mm f/2.8D is a highly regarded lens. At 550 its a steal.
Btw, if you didnt do it yet, I recomment buying these two ebooks asap:
-DSLR: D70 by Peter Inova
-Complete Nikon D70 Guide by Thom HoganI still have those ebooks, so you are welcome to borrow* them if you want.
Enjoy your new camera!

I saw the lens on ebay, a woman's husband bought her a new lens (prob the one with the stabilizing thingie) so she was selling it, it was 3 minutes till the end of the auction, with a high bid of 540, I bid 550 and got it. I didn't want to spend the money without thinking it over a bit but figured I'd regret it later if I didn't.
Meok, thank you, I have the Hogan ebook, but not the Inova one.

son, the reason they're not responding is that they all have you on ignore. To think of it, maybe I should do the same.

so I got it, and it turned out to have a miniscule amount of play in the lens mount so that it sometimes didn't function until you gave it a slight twist to the left--that worried me, so I'm returning it. That said, in the short time I had it, I loved that lens, despite how heavy it was, and how it made people look at me suspiciously, as if I was conducting surveillance on them-- from the little bit of stuff I fooled around I can see it makes for gorgeous pictures... so I'm going to find another, one way or another.

yea, but they still cant say what it does
or can they
they dont know?

shitty Rand... sorry to hear its got some play, but glad to hear you like the lens.
i know what you mean about the strange looks... people think you're a freak when you bust that thing out but man, if you're looking for some serious depth of field in your shots thats the lens to use.
i'd love to try something in the 400mm or up range for nature photos.

I love the "bokeh" in the shallow focus--creamy and beautiful
son: I don't understand what you're saying
