anyone know how to create a background pattern in flash... basically like you do in html?
maybe do something with duplicate movie clip and no scale?
saw this a while back:

you could see if it's in his download section:

but good question? i'd love to know.

nice. lots of great sources in there.
i may end up emailing travis directly if not much turns up. hes usually pretty generous with his flash wisdom.

Travis is a straight up DUDE...
he helped me years back with a newsposting thingy.bang on travis!

use stage properties to get your width and height, then use duplicateMovie clip to cover the background with enough copies of your tile

Do you really want to make tiles or is it just the look you want?
You can have a transparent window and have the bg tiles in html.

i would recommend against doing the transparent thing. it's not supported by everyone and it slows everything down substantially. still maybe it'll work fine for you.
it's called windowless mode.

I'd put the image as a movieclip with in a movieclip and duplicate and paste it so that you only have one background to move about should you need to

thanks for all the help everyone.

this worked out perfect. you can make a vector or bitmap pattern whatever you want.

A bunch of movieclips are going to slow things down, I figured out a nice way to do it with "bitmap fills" in flash.
Here's the site I used it on filling the browser...
Here's how its done:
1. Draw a really big rectangle
2. Drop the bitmap tile on the stage and break it apart until it's gray checkboard
3. Click the broken apart bitmap with the eyedropper.
4. You should now have the paintbucket but it will be locked, click the lock on the bottom of the tool palette.
5. Fill the big rectangle from step 1 with the bitmap. It should tile to fit.
6. Depending on how you scale your movie, figure out how to keep the pattern placed accordingly.
