What do you guys think about this? In April I got hired by a company in NY (as Art Director) who told me that they would need to get me a visa to work over there from Europe which wouldn't be available until October so basically even though I got the job in April I wouldn't be starting work until October - right!? OK Fair enough, I fill out loads of forms and fax them over etc. I even got pretty friendly with the guy who hired me and we chatted often on AIM. Now though for the last couple of weeks this guy has gone silent on me, not replying to AIM Messages or eMails etc. I'm getting the feeling that they've got someone else local for the job and don't want to tell me. What should I do? If they've changed their mind why don't they just be straight and tell me about it!? Afterall I'm not desperate for a new job - I don't get it. Advice?

Oh and btw I got the job from a listing on here!
- e-pill0
ooooh who was the listing???
- SaintAntoine0
A certain search company but I don't want to give their names away just yet.

so basicly you had an innernet affair for a job you found off here that would grant you passage to nyc from europe, but then the art direction fell off the map...spam the hell out of the company that dragged you on for so long and get a job near you!

that seems shady. i would be kind of pissed especially since they were going to bring you into the states. you seem pretty calm about it though. did you really want to come here/work there?

Maybe he's on vacation. It's that time of year.
I guess he probably woulda mentioned that before though.
- e-pill0
what would they have you do? what would you be doing instead while they thought you were doing what they wanted you to do?

I'm calm as I still have a job here in Europe but I'm still pretty pissed off about it as I had started organising my life and looking foward for October etc. Now I gotta put things on hold! And the guy is not on holiday as he is on AIM everyday but just not responding to my "what the hell is going on?" questions.

The AIM sessions were pretty friendly, we would discuss what I would be doing over there, new projects that we would be working on and just general non work related stuff. Weird

What a dickbag. I hate that silent treatment bullshit. I went through that a few times with potential employers. I'd get the phone number and call someone.
Take it to HR or his boss. That's def the next move for you!

Yeah I think you're right dirtydesign!

It's important that you remain an adult....
Did they give you an actual offer? A fax or email will suffice, and did you accept said offer by fax or email? If they did offer and you did accept then quantify the time and effort you have spent preparing for the move. Include any hardship that this situation has caused. Write a well written letter to the ceo, the head of HR, and the person who made the offer and send it via fedex with confirmation overnight. Make the language of the letter sound matter of fact...no emotion...Then drive on with your life. Someone will respond...tell them they are extremely unprofessional and ask for compensation of damages...have that number ready....
