I'm after a laptop (in the UK), and as a student I can't afford much more than £600/£700.
I need as much performance as possible for photoshop etc, just wondered if anyone has any recommendations.
Cheers

I have the same problem mate. got a few links to refurb parts on Mac education sites (they do good deals). I don't think you'll get anything super great for £700 from what I've seen, but there's always the magic of eBay...oh sweet, sweet eBay (I don't actually have an account though).

i got it 2 months ago. it has been really great. i studied the shit for months before i finally bought one and i am not disapointed at all. great screen, slim, dvd burner 100 gb hard drive. on and on...
i paid $1499 with 100 rebate but it looks like it has dropped in price.

acutally that link i gave is for a 'serviced' one. i bought mine at http://www.microcenter.com i don't think they have those over there though : \
i almost went with an amd processor but the battery life is really poor (same with the p4) that's just why i went with a pentium m. plus one thing is that all the chips are set different so the 1.7ghz and the amd 3000+ blah blah doesnt really mean shit. you really have to do a bit of research

Just got a HP Pavillion ZD 8000 used on Ebay.
3.2ghz, 2gb ram, 128mb video, 60gb hdd, windows xp pro.
Running tip top so far and natively supports my 23" LCD for a dual monitor setup. Got a couple usb external hdd's for space
Anyhow, I paid about $1300 for the computer. Its a desktop replacement and I couln't be happier. Only drawback is it's weight (5kg) and the battery is only good for 1.5hrs.

Fuck an HP, and a Compaq. And a gateway. Those brands all suck.
IBM, Toshiba, Dell. Check those out.
