you need InDesign for multipage brochures, publications, etc, also it's good for one pagers ad the holder for elements created in illy and ps

btw,ive just graduater a year ago and its scary how schools don't give you the a profound knowledge of teh basics..;
i hired(i'm allowed to that :) ) a old schoolfriend and i had to teach how to make crop marks in illustrator..she did them all manually....damn..lcukily i just thought myself..ah and all the creative geeks who say you don't need..you DO..it helpos in the creative process..because you know whats is possible and how long it will take...unless you work for coke(doin a montage right now) and they want you to do adjustmnets forever....tiing is screwed up right now..working all weekend..

yeah indesign is an asset man...its good, quick and easy to learn....

InDesign is not just for newspapers or magazines.
If you're going to get just PS and Illy, make sure you lay the text out in Illy, so that it'll be clean (and don't bring it into PS afterward). Just because you can do everything in one software, doesn't mean it's the best way to do it. that's why our industry has the different kinds of software.

Sounds like the fab 3 are PS, IL and InDesign
from the point of a professional designer, would that be enough...

yeah...well...again...it depends from person to person..a friend of mine is print designer but uses lightwave to create some grahics
i use after effects sometimes to give my preintwork something more(efects)..its not 300 dpi but if you render at a pixel base of 5000-5000 u can us it on an A4 for print....

Maybe the programs were not the major ones: I use a lot on a weekly basis:
Suitcase, Stuffit, Toast, Fetch, Microsoft Office, Quicktime Pro, Acrobat Pro- in addition to the "essentials" still not 40 though........
