I currently use photoshop cs2 for EVERYTHING... but most people tell me I need 40 other programs to be "good" in the design world. But i seem to manage just fine.
What are your views. How many programs are really needed to get the job done?
(Think Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, GoLive, etc.)

ps, InD, Ill/FH for print

obviously, it depends on your line of work.

I don't see how you can be designing identity/logo/collateral without illustrator and indesign...
golive is a fucking POS and best avoided.
If you do websites dreamweaver and flash are sound investments

Use whatever it takes and works the best for you, within industry standards of course.

and furthermore, who gives a fuck as long as you get your work done?
- brandelec0

Being a web nerd. I seem to use the same four daily.
flash, photoshop, illustrator, and dreaweaver.
Though for my own work it's probably closer to 10.

for print, my most basic of basics would be InDesign, Photoshop and Ilustrator. If i could only pick two for print, InDesign and Photoshop because ID has basic vector abilities, but i wouldn't be very happy about it.

more hands on you become, harder it gets to become a CD.

I was thinking that Photoshop and Illustrator would be fine.
Is InDesign really a NEED in the Graphic Design business?
Unless your workin in a Mag/News Agency that Prints "news" or other things, I dont see why you would need it.

and people are saying that I should go out and buy Acrobat....
So bottom line im thinking... I will be fine If I am using Photoshop and Illustrator.
- brandelec0
who are these people?
these are tools man, just get what you need

get whatever gets the job done and shows off good shit and originality....everything else is expendable
- canuck0
I think you would be a bit stuck making a catalog or anything over a couple of pages in illustrator mang.

Well, this possible employer wants me to go out and buy the Creative Suite 2 (she wants me to have and know all the products) and I am telling her that I can manage just fine on PS and IL. It just seems pointless when she has all the programs and she wants me to go out and buy the exact same programs when we could work on "components" together and then put them together... using her InDesign and Acrobat and all that.
