What is good webdesign?

I'm looking for design firms with great webpages, and by great I don't mean big. Are their any good firms with good pages? That's my questions, I for one think that Tomato's page is really bad and also Pentagrams has no spirit, you don't get intrested in the work.
Let me know, and please discuss.

elegant code or
inspired flash or
fancy dhtml or
all or the above?theres probably thousands with great webpages.. you might need to be a little more specific,

I mean "good standards compliance and good design" I really don't fancy cool flash and space-out dhtml. Doesn't make it "good".

what i dont really understand is, sure alot of what is posted in the NTB is great looking
but a lot of the sites posted are really poorly built, in terms of standards/and in some cases even baisc do's and donts of the web
looks great, ..but HTML text as images? , wtf ?

The Pentagram page really isn't that good-looking, don't you agree save? I mean their work is "wow" but the page... no not so much.

I think Pentagrams website should have a spinning 3D logo on the homepage for sure.

Save, I'll keep you posted on my trying to understand the Pentagram page. They truly are one of the greatest firms and I respect their work but I must say I really don't "get" the page. I have a friend at the office who used to work there so I'll have to ask her.

I really don't think Pentagram need to dress up their site with unnecessary clutter. THey let the work do the walking
They are not selling themselves as webdesigners but problem solvers. The problem with loads of sites is the visual distractions and the latest trends.
Clients go to their site and can simply navigate around it.
