Usually I price by the complexity of the 'art' for design work dealing with print and web. Now sometmes I feel I'm screwing myself and the client is getting the best price in the world for work. I'm a young designer and I need help with pricing. I don't like charging by hour. But I was wondering how many of you beleive Designers should charge by hour? Or charge by what you beleive the 'piece' is worth? What do you think about the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook (11th Edition)? Thanks alot everyone :)

i think it depends on your qulaity of work. you got good style, i cant see the work but i see that you got good stuff going there.
when ever you get a job, why dont u yell it out loud here and everyone will help u.

Going from Begginer, In the Middle, to Pro... I think im near Begginer and Middle in Deisgn work. Ive been practicing design for about 5-6 years starting from 9th grade.

$1 less then the client is willing to pay -- that's the idea.
I charge per hour, but then i see the face on the client's face. Still i'm cheap so when i see the face i don't feel guilty asking for every penny i deserve.
Usually it's good to estimate more or less how many hours the project will take - quote that stating that if it will take longer you will thel it to the client - then when you are close to go over the hours tell the client that you might go over X amount. If he'she says yes you are cool, if not, then take the money you are owned and fold.

hahahaha yeah...and epill is making me feel bad that I never knew about the place...
man that place was awesome for inspiration and motivation I spetn like 3 hours in there on Saturday and I wanted to buy a book but I didnt cause it was 80....unfortunately I got a ticket for 65 ....so basically though I made a net savings of 15....but I dont have a book to show for it
