i think goodfellas is more on point because it was a true story and scorsese is much more a master of cinematic art than coppola.
however, the amount of people who are in the sopranos that was originally in goodfellas is actually hilarious.

no its not. it was the brain child of mario puzo and robert evans. robert evans commissioned the book from puzo and then after it weas written made him go back and do some re-writes to the story.
if by "based on a true story" you mean that things like that actually happened, then yes. but if you mean it like the corleone family is real, or at least an abberation of something that was real, then you are off point.

Ray Liotias VO narrations in Goodfella's is the best. A lot of times when I'm shopping in the mall with my girlfriend Ihear his wiseguy voice is my head:
"So we did what any hot-blooded American couple would do... we went over to Bed Bath and Beyond to smell sample handsoap for the next two hours..." or "we asked for Wetzels and all they gave us was dry dough and some yellow sauce they called cheese.".

if my minor in college of cinema studies does not make me capable of making an informed decision on movies, then yes, i am a kid. and its not the fact that you disagree, it is the fact that your statement is absurd and immature at best.
