Strangely, JazX might be right in a way. Lisbon strategy is down, the constitution is down, local subsidizing strategy fails. Europe is ruled by countries that cannot get their economies right and are trying to impose their systems on the whole EU (Germany and France govts say they'd welcome unified high taxes in EU which imo would be a guaranteed EU killer).
Janne is right saying it's time to rethink the shape of future EU to get it done right.
IMO the way to save the union is loosening it a bit, allowing for much more local decisions and differences.
The only thing that's really needed imo is a free trade area as little regulated as possible and allowing people to move around the EU freely.
I hope UK presidency can push EU in this direction.I have a weird feeling that Europe is stronger now, that constitution became a pile of garbage. The only nation that's been hurt is politicians and I can't force myself to feel sorry for them.

Rabattski, I doubt it will literally fall apart. I just don't think we should be forced to become one organizm. I kind of believe that EU will be stronger when less regulated, leaving the processes to their natural "homeostatic" flow. Things will regulate themselves, only thing that's needed is personal freedom. Are we divided now that the constitution's dead? I feel closer to EU people now than ever. I really believe that what happened is good for UE.
Concentrating all political power in one place is always scary. Look at the history - Roman Empire, Stalin, Bush, Palpatine :)

==================
Politicians are trying to scare us saying "look, if we don't become stronger, Bush will eat us alive". Aside from that it's very disgusting fear based social engineering (that we despise Bush for), this "strength" would do good to politicians only. They want more power. They want to be more like G.W. Bush, to protect us from G.W.Bush. Now the people said no.Yesterday's vote was like cat's puke. You think the cat's throwing up because it's sick, when actually is a sign of its health, it's rejecting what was bad for it.
