For some reason I'm getting this weird spacing inbetween certain characters in textboxes in flash. It's all aliased, verdana, not sitting on any pixel decimals, so I dont know what the problem is.
Anybody else have this problem and no how to fix it? You can see what I mean at: http://www.clubgt.com/ It happens in the left bar in the word "week"
Thanks

make sure that your coordinates are justified to upper left of object and that it at a whole pixel as you mentioned be it 10,10 or whatever. also make sure it has not been scaled any

yeah.. that's kind of nutty...
... my first suggestion would be to just use another font that looks good when aliasing is turned off.
:) I like the easier solution other than dicking around - unless it's trying to figure out some hot female's bra... If I can't get one of them things unhooked - I'll settle down, gather my thoughts, maybe have a cup of coffee... even look for the directions... in other words - whatever it takes to get the job done...
... but yeah - not to digress too much... just change the damn font .
:)

i say learn to do it right to avoid this problem later with other fonts as well

the funny thing is, i tried it in a new textbox outside of the file and verdana still does it. It's on the upper left coordinate, etc.
And I can't find any good pixel fonts that aren't blocky. Are there any good fonts that are hinted (converted for screen) like verdana and arial are?

sure you're viewing the movie at 100% scale?

It's because you are embedding the font, here's a quick example I made:
http://img110.echo.cx/my.php?ima…
Flash dumps all the font hinting to save filesize so you get randomness like that when using alias mode + embedded fonts

in order to make the font aliased, flash rearranges the position of the characters so that each glyph starts in an integer value of x-pos.
thus, after characters like w and m a weird spacing occurs. If the text is static, you can solve it by hand; changing character spacing of each character until you're satisfied. If the text is dynamic, you must implement a space-correction algorithm while writing your text.using pixel fonts is the best solution though...

good answer afxrephlex.
On a similar note, does anyone have a solution for the blurring you get third line down and beyond on aliased verdana if you increase the line spacing by anything more than a couple of pixels?
- afxrephlex0
i dont think any blurring will occur if x-y coordinates and line spacing are all integers
- imakedesign0
i get these strange spacings too..

(Jun 2 05, 03:29)Nope, third line down is blurred - line spacing is always an integer and all text is placed on an exact pixel, at all levels (movie clips etc).
Its fine up until you increase the line spacing above +2.

i tested this blurring with aliased verdana 9, 11,12,13; static and dynamic
with 5 lines of text
with line spacing 2,3,5,10
and did not see any kind of blurring.
you may however check the transform panel whether _xscale and _yscale are both %100.0
not %100.1 or something like this.

(Jun 2 05, 04:40)Interesting. I had checked everything that I could find and everything was sized as it should be, and on a pixel coordinate. If it was just the size and position of the text I would expect to see it blurred regardless of the linespacing.
It was at 10pt. though. Did you try that?

(Jun 1 05, 21:14)are you joking me, just search the PVN, there's gotta' be at least 50 threads on this alone or try Google

check this:
verdana 10, aliased, line spacing:11

(Jun 2 05, 05:02)No idea why it isn't working on mine then. Cheers anayway afx.
