HTML Color Problems

I am going to start with my usual comment that I am a photographer NOT a web designer. But I have been trying to learn some things.
Recently I have been helping a friend do a simple HTML website.
I am using dreamweaver. He wants the background color set CC9966. So we set the background in color to CC9966. This site requires the use of a few jpegs done in a matching CC9966 (done in PS set to SRGB color space and saved for web).
It seems to work with no differnce in color between BG and the jpegs. Tests fine in certain browsers and the color is seemless. But in others you can see the differnce bigtime. How is this corrected? Is there a way to make the two colors seamless from browser to browser?
Please help, I can't find the answer anywhere.

pick websafe colours instead of just rgb values.

lol stewart.
Rab
The colors I picked are websafe.
They are changing in value from browser to browser.

weird. i've never run into those kind of problems, the only reason i can imagine is either a small error (check the actual jpeg you're using and colorpick the colour to see if it's really the color specified) or that the screen you're using is set to 256 colours or something. those are the only reasons i can come up with.

the web safe color browser palette is dead if you don't have one of these get one...it now has html values for color that comply with browsers...I can't live without it.

I've seen this problem a couple of times, never have found away to solve it, as it seems a browser software error.
Can you test it with a gif or a png - see if that solves the problem?

it's just a color reference moveinspace and handy if you're working with pantone and need to properly convert it to cmyk or sRGB values. it's not to the point here (won't solve the problem).

haha, maybe you should check this:

ok didn't read whole post...it's my fault. Oh and rabbattski thanks for the tutorial. :)

Yeah, it's truly weird.
Saved the files for web in PS CS1
in SRGB colorspace as CC9966. Using the digital colormeter in OSX utilites, it reads the same in as background CC9966 in earlier version of safari and latest firefox. But in later version of safari, it reads color as differnt (CF9F59 on jpegs , CC9966 background.)
My theory is that black is black, and white is white on all browsers, so he needs to pick something like that so it can be consistent and EASY on me (as I am doing this as a favor, but is turning into a real headache. lol)I'll try the png or gif test, but my theory is it won't work either.
Thanks for the link Rab

first, when you save for web, i don't think the profile goes with it...
when i open the resulting jpeg, it says it has not color profile...
second, it may not be the browser, is the computer set to thousands of colors? if so, then only about 20 of the web safe colors will be the same and not shifted in other browsers...i saw a site once that had this detailed with screenshots, can't remember where...
if it is not in thousands of colors, then what browsers are different?

Safari 1.3 colors look different
Safari 1.0.3 colors look the same
Firefox 1.0.3 colors look the sameBoth computers i have monitors set to millions of colors

The only other thing I can think of is that HE prepped the files, not me. But they seemed to be OK to me...but I will redo a couple as tests.
Rab thanks for that link....a good one. I didnt think about softproofing for web.

Any other solutions?
Please?
