This is the most challenging design I've taken on in a while. Give me a corporate identity anyday!
www.magma.ie/temp/ROI_timetable...
There must be a better way to design this mother. Criteria: all dates have to be inline, so a student won't double book an exam, but there is too much white space forcing the type size to be 4pt, too small for comfort. Any suggestions?

for starters the left column on the first page doesn't line up w/ the grid next to it.

you could also work with background colours or patterns to give it more orientation because it's so hard to understand.
also maybe you should think about using a type which is still legible at a smaller type (maybe a bit heavier, sc oriented one) to create a contrast to the type as well.
it needs differences in the grid.

Can you not use colours?

Ah come on, it's not finished, colours i ax ya! I'm talking about a structural overhaul, There's not much point in giving the table 'alternate fills' if there's a better way to design the table itself
I'm trying to find a more dynamic way to use a double A4 sheet to present this much info, boring I know but welcome to my world!
Thanks for the working link Rab

Can you not display the dates like:
'Sat 10/12/05 am'
might give you a little more room, and will look more consistent.
Can you not rotate the titles to a 45º, might be enough room but would be easier to read!?!?!

with all due respect it's just a table. the most important thing regarding a table is if it's readable and understandable. no higher math is being used here if you know what i mean. it's not really an info graphic.
structure wise i really can't help you out. i have to read everything and try to understand everything. ain't got time for that.
anyways can you go bigger than a3? maybe a fold out would work out better in this case for you w/ this table.

OK thanks for taking the time guys, it can't last forever!

maybe you should dump the whole grid and work with for instance different shapes like circles or squares etc. and totally guide it with a colour gradient system. so you can immediately see the horizontal versus vertical colour idea.
