any companies I should look at from both cities? Only know a few, I bet some insiders would know better...

The job market still sux in Portland but the scenery is incredible! People are nice but if you like girls you might want to bring one with you...unless you like hairy arm pit dreadlocked phishheads or bull dyke looking riot girrls.

All the major agencies are in Chicago. JWT, O&M, Y&R ... which helps if you want to movie around.

are there any online listings where to find design firms in chicago and/or portland? So I can browse...
- pulsar_nl0
fullerc, thx! how long do you live in Portland? Seems NIKE WHQ is stationed there too...

Chicago obviously has more firms to choose from and the market is probably a little more stable.
Portland is gorgeous. I wouldnt mind living in Portland, but Bend is like paradise. The thing I love about Portland is the character it has.
Chicago on the other hand has some of the most magnificent architecture.
Thats a tough choice because I really think both cities are awesome.
If you do come to Portland I will show you around.
Also try to live in the Pearl District.
Portland is also big into the fine arts.

JazX, you're never too old to move or give your opinion, it's appreciated! As I don't know anything about both...
I was thinking of moving to the US, in specificaly Portland or Chicago. I have some friends in both worlds.

(May 19 05, 07:46)right, actually, I spent about 5 years all together outside of the US and 3 in NYC.

Portland has no jobs and tons of bums, seriously homeless people everywhere.
But if you can get into that Henry Miller mindset it's a fucking great city. Cheap and fun.

I got some pals with a studio above above the burnside bridge, looking down onto the savlation army there. It's fucking a regular party 24 hours a day out there...
I'm a left wing pinko fucking compassionate bastard too, and it still gets sore on the eyes.

Portland: year round snowboarding at Mt.Hood, dope fishing/ rafting, shitty winters.
- fullerc0
I hear the winters in Chi town can get brutal. I've lived in PDX for 5 years and the rain is finally getting to me....
As for the bums...I use to think I was very liberal until I moved to PDX. The bums rule this town and I'm getting sick of them asking me for handouts, going through my trash and defecating under my porch!
- TechVector0
haha thats f*cked up fullerc.
That and the bassheads that hang out at burnside.
