Anybody seen the animated 3D madness... It's had a pretty bad response from the public. Personally found it pretty hard to follow... you end up watching the cloud and rain moving all over the place, and not the stuff you were looking for in the 1st place. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talkiā¦

I like it - found it pretty easy to understand, and particularly liked the link between night and day when instead of cutting, they show the light spreading out sun-rise style.

I want to like it - but the colouration is uninspiring, I'd expect to see more green, more cities and more distinction.
Also, the branding is waaaay off - it looks like the weather's being ported over from Sky News - where's all the rectangular loveliness we've come to expect from Auntie?

Hmm not too sure about it yet. Maybe it'll grow on me. All i got last night was a blue splog with mini blue lightsabres raining down on glasgow?! Other than that quite a nice day so far.

(May 17 05, 06:25)that's all true actually, have to say - good point.
God I'm lame.
Question is, do you still have me on ignore? ;)

Gymicky, but about time they revamped it...
- vespa0
i agree with nairn on the branding being off, that was the first thing i said when i saw it.
but you know, as they say, early days. some of those comments on the site tho - "appalling" etc, it's not the end of the world, gotta start somewhere!
- kelpie0
it is definately not "appalling". Some folks just fear change.
- Nairn0
he he kelpie - I never ignored you, nor would anyone on NT except for spamming bastards... and, maybe in future, anti-Gingers!
:)

what are the accessibility issues wrongtest? (sorry i only saw it briefly on the first day, don't know the service that well)

Old people and the visually impaired.. There's a lack of contrast. There's a lot of motion. Overall there's no doubt that the viewer has to do a lot more processing now... You have to try and cut out the stuff that's not important to you, but there's things flying all over the place, and you can't.
The general idea of public service graphics seems to be to make things simpler, and clearer for all, but this just is really really difficult to follow.
- vespa0
but are these things that can be refined? contrast can be adjusted. less / slower motion?
or do you think the whole thing is just shit?
- Nairn0
Mmmaybe... but I think the 'essence' of the update - the animation, the fluid overlaying of weather fronts etc does offer a lot more information in a more intuitive fashion (which bits would get wet under those old magnet-style rain clouds?)
It just needs tightening up a little - and a lot more contrast!

No you're right they could change things, and I think they are... I swear the land looked green this morning (not brown anymore)...
They've toyed with slowing it down I think... Maybe they should try and ditch the motion and just show a morning, afternoon, evening, night slide sequence.
You don't need to see it all moving hour by hour - no one can take it in...
And when they zoom all around the UK that really is pointless.

Ooops...
I guess the problem is whilst the old version didn't show you as accurate info, you're programmed to take in what's going on in a second.
Here you have to relearn everything, and you've got to think - what's the point?

i am not a big fan of the new look, but maybe it'll grow on us? I just want them to get the damn forecast right for once. Hurricane anybody?
- kelpie0
really believe that then wrongtest eh? ;)
sorry couldn't resist.
