AD what probably happened to was a Marshall got ya. Marshalls drive around and their only job is to fine cars with unpaid parking tickets.
Happened to my father a few times. They drive around early in the morning when they know everyone is asleep and they tow the cars away. Luckly I caught those bastards once and my father ran outside to stop them. He had to pay the marshall on the spot for them not to tow the car.
Its sucks balls. What I do is I go on the site every month and check my plate to see if there are any tickets that I dont know about.

I had the out of state car for about 4 years now as I moved here a month before 9/11
I still have out of state plates as the insurance is cheaper :)So far this year I lost:
$1,700 from a lossed laptop
$1,600 to my parents
$800 to my sister
$1,300 in parking tickets
another $1,000 roughly put on my car

I use to drive my ex around to places on the weekends. It's been such a hassle though in repairs, fines, and parking.
I like to drive around every once in a while like woodbury commons, roosevelt field mall, ikea, and brooklyn

gee, I too have had that got trashed, lost the car in the city, decided to take a cab to the police station to report it stolen then drive by it situation.

yeah, let's all feel sorry for the guy who never legally transferred his plates, paying out of town insurance rates, can't get his ass in gear to move his car across the street once a week, and ignores his parking tickets.
