got fired after year and a half at a shit job. (on a fucking Saturday!!!) :(
my boss was a real asshole about it and said i'm not eligible for unemployment. I don't know much about that, does he make that desicion or am i legally entitled to it?
- brandelec0
sorry to hear about that
but at least its the weekend and there's no shit job to go to on monday
- JazX0
The fuck you're not eligible. You need to request those papers right away from the State of NY. I also had the problem 5 months after 9/11.
He can dispute it but chance are you will win. You paid into it already.
- kld0
don't think he can decide whether you're eligible. Are you a contractor.
- toastie0
thanks, JazX, im doing some research on that.
kld: nope, it was a regular job.

hey man I got the chop also for some reason about two months ago.
I am still not quite sure why the hell it happened because I worked my fucking arse off for nothing doing 65+ hour weeks and just as I completed their XML files on a project that no one else could finish right they fired me.
My only advice is get a job real fast don't wait around for nothing get on the phone and try and get another job and just get on with it.
But the good thing is you got a number of projects and months experience under your belt get back out there tiger `!!!

- JazX0
chances are, you're eligible.
good luck, you should be able to get close to $400 per week actually. I got $362 then.

Getting fired from a shitty job is a blessing in disquise!! trust me. i've been there. Got laid off 2 weeks after New years in 2003.
Afterwards I got so busy with freelance work that I realized that it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
At least you can go get shit faced for 2 days and won't have to worry about showing up with a hang over!
- toastie0
haha, np.
this job was a tech job anyway, it's about time i got a job that i could really flex my skills at :)
- JazX0
from what I remember it, you can go to the State of NY's website, sign up, and also apply either there or via phone once per week. Easy

as pie?
- kld0
please don't say hangover that loud, thanks!
- warheros20
you know getting high is the best way to "get rid of" a hangover. you just forget about it!
so, i think we all know what you have to do, kid.
- kld0
usually, I 'd be right there with you on that, but I'm not holding at this time. But you're right. Best cure ever

Toastie sorry to hear that about ur job.
Bad news tho... your boss does have a right to block you from recieving any unemployment and thats not the least of it.
Under the Job Loss Patriot Act of 2002, you boss is entitled to take several actions against you upon firing you, some include:
The right to enter your apartment or home with out your consent for a period of 1 month after your firing.
The right to borrow your car, bike, or other vehical(s) for the period of 2 months after your firing.
Access to the phone numbers of your immidiate family to inform them of your firing and argue your lack of value to his company.
There's some other stuff that he can do also, but those seem to be the biggest pain in the ass of all of them.
The right to
- JazX0
depends on which state though. NY is pretty liberal
- toastie0
dude, he can borrow my bike?? what the fuck!?
