hey, i'm 30 and have never had an actual folio. i'm going to finally get one online but need to do it quickly (2-3 weeks after work hours).
any advice from people on how much work to show? do lots of sections make a difference? best size to aim for (800x600 still relevant?).
any thoughts would be great.

keep it simple.
only show your very best work. dont bore the viewer with medium work.
800x600 is still the size. But if you are gonna send the folio to agencys maybe you can run higher res.?

my 30yr old bones also say make it simple. keep the site over all muted so your work pops. also get me in and out of your site in under a couple minutes, i have add & shit

yep - keep it simple...don't bore me to death with over indulgent trendy shite...I wanna see your work...and only the best stuff...not everything you've done since you started....
make sure I can use your navigation without wanting to poke a pencil up my arse
don't EVER write about yourself in the first person

my personal preference is to think of the site itself the like the book of your work you'd present in person -- almost nonexistent. if you're not trying to show of every html/flash skill you have, then simply show pictures of your work in an organized way.
some website folios are the digital equivalent of making a portfolio book out of neon signs, velcro and christmas lights... don't do that.

yeah i wasn't going to have any details about me. i don't really get why anyone should give a toss what i'm into when thinking of getting me to do work for them?
then again i always thought bob on becker was such a cool guy that the whole talking about myself in the 3rd person seems cool and cutting edge...

Is your work print or screen?

i see my website as a playground more than portfolio, it's ever changing and have a mix of client work and thigns done for the fun of it.
and like the others said, keep it simple and clean unless you have flash animation skills to show off

show us some of your work mate—
i'd consider making a one page HTML vertical scrolling folio.simple and you cant argue that it works...

I'm over 30 and doing mine now actually. Decided to go with an archive type blog, you can see an incomplete version here(still need to scan and add loads of old graphic design from my london days):
please keep in mind this is work in progress but it may generate some thoughts:

nice work, Chip... but I'd lose the splash page if I were you.

Shellie thinks that Jevad is right about writing about yourself in the first person. She completely agrees. I believe she deeply respects Jevad's outlook on the subject.

thanks sponge. I hear ya on the splash page but I sort of want an area where I can link to photos and other blogs which I'll have on the final version. I want to keep the archive as a separate thing.
